I would disagree with the previous comment. The owner is very helpful and passionate about guns, collector guns, and quality products. Yes, his selection is limited, but the items he carries are quality and he will assist you with any questions or concerns you have. If you have any issues down the road, he is more than happy to help you with your gun. He also carries a small, but nice collection of knives and some hunting gear. He is not a major outfitter company like Scheel's or Gander Mountain, but nor is he competing in those fields. I believe his goal is to be a local owned, quality, and collector gun shop that focuses on service, not sell the most guns in the county. And because of this your gun purchasing experience is more personal.
The people that started Rupert's were good people. The next generation was rude, and strutted around the store with their nose so high in the air that they would drown if they were ever in the rain. After 2 or 3 visits, I traded with Frank's. As a trap and skeet shooter I was taken to the Frank's shop basement and his house where the nice pieces were stored. There were lots of nice pieces on the street level, but the high dollar stuff was not there. For skeet I shot a Browning grade 1 with the bore polished, trigger smoothed and shoe added, the stock was replaced with stretch and drop. My buddy purchased a Browning grade 1 with a full set of tubes to shoot 12, 20, 28, 410 gauges with a nice hard fitted case. Why Ruperts had their nose so high up was beyond my understanding, just arrogant I guess. Frank knew our names and seemed appreciative for our business. A customer and a merchant each have obligations to each other.
I went in the store in January looking for a Foregrip for my rifle. The owner became condescending and asked me why I didn't just order one from Bushmaster. I was shocked that i had to explain to him that i prefer to support local business. He made the comment that he "could" order one for me, but implied that he wasn't going to do it because i could do it myself. He also used a swear word in front of the 3 year old that was with me. I left, shocked at the poor service. I haven't been back.
Called to ask about an accessory and was rudely told to "go online" because it would be quicker. What kind of customer service is this? Instead of inviting me to look around the store you usher me away and tell me to go online? Then when I ask if they do any gunsmith work I am told, and I quote, "no buddy I'm with a customer I don't have time to talk to you." Unbelievable! Don't waste your time or money. You'd have better luck going East on US HWY 36 until you reach Atwood, IL. At least they are PROFESSIONAL gunsmiths who do not try and run you out of their store so you can make an "online" purchase. Will never step foot in this shithole again!
I haven't been to the store, but the website is NOT informative in the least, and with the comments I am reading, I don't think I will be visiting this store anytime soon. I really want a pink pistol, but I sure don't want to be treated badly. :
