I lived at Salem Wood for a year and overall had a good experience. I would definitely recommend this property to others. I have a family with small children and never felt like they were unsafe when I left for work in the middle of the night. Great apartment complex for families as they have a well kept park, and swimming pool. The staff was always friendly to us, and we only had a couple maintenance issues and they were promptly taken care of.

This is the best apartment complex in the area. The office staff were very friendly, professional, and responsive when answering my questions during the initial leasing process, and have continued to be quick to respond to any questions or concerns since I moved here. The maintenance staff are equally professional and very quick to take care of any problems that may arise, even coming after hours and on weekends to be sure each resident's maintenance problems are addressed in a timely fashion. The areas in and around the complex's buildings are maintained to a very high level. A pleasure to live here and to interact with all the staff!

We love living at Salem Wood Apartments. It is the most well landscaped and kept up apartment complex in the Salem / Roanoke area that I have seen. Andrew Lewis Middle School where our daughter attends is among the best and located very close to our home. The maintenance crew is quick to respond to any request. We enjoy the pool, walking path and activities. Salem Wood is very pet-friendly. A short commute to Roanoke and accessible to many restaurants and recreational facilities. Salem Wood is a great value and home!

Horrible place to live. Loud neighbors and management is no help. Vehicles with flat tires taking the best parking spots. Patios used as storage of junk for family and visitors to see even though it's against rules. Mystery van picks up transient halfway house residents. I didn't feel my family was safe there. Don't pay cleaning fee because they will keep partial deposit for fees even though the apartment is clean. Breezeway filthy and moldy. It was never cleaned our whole time there. We had to clean our own breezeway area to keep filth from tracking in apartment. Had to pay $1,500 to break lease. Management wouldn't work on the problem or help us lower the fee to break lease. The management was lazy (never left the office to inspect property) and dishonest. We wanted to pay a higher rent to live in a nice place, but we were deceived. Higher rent and the nice exterior of buildings do not equate to quality of living.

Based on reviews here and elsewhere, we leased at Salem Wood only two months ago.
I agree with most of the positive reviews here, and would recommend Salem Wood myself if we hadn’t moved near an impossible neighbor who, Daily, violates our “peace and quiet” along with other, even illegal, activities.
My children have even been upset multiple times with no effective response from management or expressions of concern for what we have all dealt with.
It appears that I moved near someone whose ability to pay rent tramples upon their responsibility to live with any consideration for neighbors or the law.
Most residents seem to have a great experience, and I’m glad for them, especially their children. Almost any mother can understand the frustration, and even anger, when your children are targeted by adults and NOTHING is done by management *in a contract situation* where my rent is also paid early every month!
In sum, we made a grave mistake leasing here when our rights as tenants are completely disregarded and every excuse possible is given as opposed to results seen.
It’s inexcusable and anything but
“Professional”.
Buyer beware!
