Santé, in historic downtown Matthews, is a fine dining eclectic French/American themed restaurant focused on serving locally raised product. The menu changes seasonally to reflect what the Chef finds available at the local, meaning across the street, Matthew’s farmer’s market. Santé serves exquisite food in an intimate, relaxed environment paying special attention to excellent service. Voted best restaurant for romance, we pride ourselves on attention to detail, making your meal an occasion to remember.
Santé is named for a toast in French, “a votre santé”, translated to “to your health.” in honor of Chef Adam’s French heritage. Co-owners Veronica and Adam Reed moved to Matthews in 1997 and opened Santé in 2001. They are excited to sever the Matthews community and the extended the Charlotte area.
Chef Adam began his culinary career and apprenticeship at Rene Pujol’s classical French restaurant in New York City’s theatre district and worked at such venerable establishments as Tatou’s, Maxim’s, and The Russian Tea Room. Chef Adam is fortunate to continue serving the greater charlotte region as a culinary instructor at The Art Institute of Charlotte and Chef and owner of Santé.
Santé is housed in a historic building located at 165 North Trade Street. The building was constructed during the 1880’s and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The exposed brick walls give Santé the feel of old world charm that is reminiscent of places like Charleston, Savannah, New Orleans, Paris and New York.
Our intimate dining room is perfect for a romantic dinner or quiet evening for any gathering. Enjoy a quiet candlelit dinner in our main dining room or experience our year-round garden room, heated in the winter and shaded in the summer. The garden room is at the back of the restaurant in a peaceful setting. This is where we grow fresh herbs for use in the restaurant.
