Story

Shoestring Press is a membership-based fine art print shop and arts space in Crown Heights. Our sister space across the street, Shoestring Studio, provides painters and illustrators with affordable workspace and classes.

Mission

Dedicated to doing more with less, Shoestring Press serves artists and printmakers in Brooklyn with printmaking work space, technical expertise, gallery exhibitions, critical engagement, and intellectual community. We teach classes and workshops for all levels in traditional printmaking techniques (silkscreen printing, etching/intaglio, lithography, and relief printing), painting and drawing. Our goal is to make art making, and printmaking especially, accessible, affordable, and an integral part of the Crown Heights and greater Brooklyn Community.

Love this place! My partner and I went here to see if we could get our wedding invites screen printed. The staff were incredibly nice, creative, and ON IT and we could not be happier with how our invites and RSVP cards, digitally printed turned out. Their turnaround time and prices were really reasonable, especially considering the incredible quality. Cannot wait to use their services again, and possibly take a class! Highly recommend!!!!
Love this place! Classes at shoestring studio are excellent, especially those led by Jenny. Jenny is a brilliant artist and is really dedicated to her students. The owner, Lane, is smart and knowledgable about printmaking of all kinds. It feels great to have a community of artists so close to home. Thanks guys! Can't wait to visit again!
I'm not usually a 5 star rater but shoestring deserves it. Happy talented accomplished people eager to share their skills abound. And that's just the members. Worth the price of joining many times over. I've spent some of the happiest hours of my life printing and learning there.
I took the Screen Print Intensive class in April with Lane Sell. It was amazing! I am currently working on series of screen prints for art shows later this year — and I'm returning to Shoestring Press. I calculated the costs to create a print studio even a quarter as functional as Shoestring Press and it's much cheaper to get a membership to Showstring Press. Plus you get all of the knowledge and inspiration of Lane and fellow members. Even having to commute nearly 200 miles, it's more cost effective as a new print artist to work at Showstring Press rather than buy all the supplies and equipment as well as building out an environemntally-friendly studio space. If you are thinking about starting in screen or other art printing, I highly recommend taking a course. And if you looking for a space to develop your art and work, the Shoestring Press membership fee is a bargain.
