It was perfect! For 15 an hour, walk in, it’s great! As a dancer, I felt like it was just enough, unless you are trying to practice grand allegro, I don’t think there’s enough room for a whole combination. They don’t have barres though, but i stacked some chairs up and it was enough for a warm up! I was able to work on pretty much everything though, and I will definitely be coming back!
It's cleaned, organized and adequate for dancing or rehearsals in general. Love the decoration and inspirational messages that are on the walls. The studios are in excellent condition and the prices are reasonable.
I like this studio! The rooms are big and cheap $15/hour walkin rate which beats others in the area. I went from 9-11AM and the studio wasn't crowded at all. The rooms aren't super sound proof but once you turn on your own music to dance to or play the piano, etc, you don't notice at all. If you need to film something with a totally silent background, go elsewhere. But you get what you pay for. A cheap place to rehearse with lots of space, and all the basics! The customer service was great from both of the women at the front desk. Only complaint right now is that they NEED to replace their floors in their studios. But for the cost and the space, I will definitely be going back!
Absolutely Awful. As someone who's has experience in various other studios in the city, this is the worst studio I've ever encountered. There are no water fountains, instead they sell bottled water at the front desk. You also have to rent a speaker in order to use one. Compared to their competitors it seems that this studio wants to charge for everything. Cleanliness is also an issue as all of their bathrooms smell like urine. I had actually asked for a business card at the front desk, in hopes that perhaps my experience was just a one time thing. Instead, I was brushed off rather coldly and simply told off to "go to the website." Seems the ladies at front desks need a rather long lesson in customer service. Do they not realize that a business card isn't very much to ask? The customer asking for it obviously shows an interest in returning. Instead of netting a potential customer they have now turned one away, permanently. They did however, give me the motivation to look up this studio and write this review. To all other artists out there looking for a space to hone their craft, look elsewhere, there are far better venues in NYC than this one.
I booked a studio space in advance to hold auditions and they royally messed up. I call ten minutes before my scheduled time because I'm running late and they told me that they had no booking under my name. Then when I told them it was a huge mess-up on their part, they basically didn't believe me or try to do anything to help my situation. They didn't even apologize! I spoke to the receptionist TWICE and gave her a lot of details about the nature of my booking. She even gave me advice as to what block of time I should hold!! They should have known it was an error on their part, because they charged my card on the same day that they scheduled the auditions which means that they should have only been charging me $20 per hour the day-of rate, but appropriately charged me $29 per hour for a same-day reservation. I get it, I should have thoroughly read my confirmation e-mail, but they could have at least tried to do something to help me out. I've been in this business for a long time and in hospitality. When we mess up, we fix it. Meanwhile, I already have people waiting to see us, so you can imagine my humiliation. How could they take these producers seriously? There was even someone who arrived early and when he saw there was nothing with our production's name at Simple Studios, he left. So we lost an applicant. I also eeded the space until 8PM and now they told me that they could squeeze me into a space, but that it was only available until 7PM. I had seven other appointments that I basically had to scramble to find a new space for, let alone make it on time to hold the auditions. Almost everything was booked for that time in the nearby studios. I was able to find a space that could barely squeeze me in and I had to rush through all of the auditions. And what did I get from simple studios? They basically shrugged their shoulders and told me that it's my problem. I will never ever use this space again. Appalling.
Inexcusable for a rehearsal studio: • SIX rehearsal stands FOR THE WHOLE BUILDING. How can you run a rehearsal studio without music stands?! • Rooms aren't sound-proofed at all. If ONE person is singing down the hall, you'll hear it in your room. • Won't let us put spike tape on the floors, even when we're going to take them up the same day. • Not having free water fountains. They charge for bottled...cheap of them, not to mention bad for the environment when most customers bring their own refillable bottles. • Front desk has always been rude and unwilling to accommodate even small requests. I've rehearsed in studios throughout the city and I've never met people so rigid and unfriendly. Virtually no useful customer service. • They open about an hour and a half later than would be ideal for making the most out of a rehearsal day. • Most rehearsal studios are unusably small. TL;DR: Use Ripley Grier unless you just need a closet to stand still in with no music stand and you're fine with hearing everyone else in the building rehearsing.
Awful staff. Completely irrational people. We booked the space for two hours and nicely asked if we could stay an extra 30'. We had no problem paying for the extra time. We ran 4 minutes over the initial booking not even the extra 30' and one of the staff member came bouncing at the door like a crazy person, she was so mad at us for no reason. It's not our fault if she wants to go home and we have paid to be there. Not our fault if she has a miserable life and need to throw her anger at client. For someone with a lot of experience in production studio this is THE worst experience I've had. Don't go there!
Do not use the podcast room. 1 It's much too small for more than two people, although it is set up for 4 people plus a person to work the computer. 2 The mics have no spit screens or foam covers, 3 most important, the software is extremely buggy and requires constant fiddling by someone from the studio staff. Downloading takes forever. 4 Because the space is so tiny, it gets hot, and the provide fans, which of course leak into your audio without cooling the space. For this that want $39/hour, which is maybe the cost of one of the mics.
Due to the pandemic simple studios has closed down or move to a different location I remember it as being one of the best places to go to to do photos I always recommended other photographers and I will let them know that they're closed but I also let them know in the past that it was one of the great places to go to not only can you do photos you can also do videos I am definitely going to miss simple studios and I hope you get this message and reopen thank you for giving me the opportunity to speak to you guys
This simple Studios is an incredible find, a wonderful new addition to the city's rehearsal spaces. Not only is it immaculately kept, but the staff is friendly, and they've obviously done their homework in terms of how to set the rooms up, with great lighting, sound dampeners, actual stage lights, etc. Great people seem to congregate there, as well. Five stars!
