The only reason I didn’t give this place 5 stars is because they never answer the phone. But all the staff here was friendly. I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed and Dr. Smagalski was wonderful! Extremely pleasant and made me comfortable as I could get as nervous as I was! This man extracted all of my teeth and talked to me every step of the way! I started feeling nauseous and he waited for me to get myself together and didn’t rush me at all! I really appreciated that. I really had a pleasant experience with him and his assistant. His assistant was very informative and tried to calm me as best she could. The lady at the front desk was pleasant as well. After my procedure I waited for my ride and a guy at the front desk came and checked on me to make sure I didn’t need help with anything. Thank you guys for all of your help!
I am so amazed at how well this dental office treated me. I received awesome care and insight on my dental needs. The waiting room was clean and friendly. The customer service was great. The dental hygienist and doctor were very informative and kind. I appreciate this dental office and all that they do. Keep up the good work!
The people here work incredibly hard and are always busy because they're one of the few places in Hampton Roads I've found accepting new patients. Despite how busy they are, the staff is always amazingly friendly and go out of their way to help. In particular, one of the women at the front desk I always forget to ask her name because I'm always in a hurry to leave just because of my own anxiety took it upon herself to get me worked in for a filling the same week I had my first exam because I was having trouble eating due to my tooth. She took down my name and number and kept it on her desk and really helped me to feel better knowing she would get me in as soon as she could--and she did. Truly above and beyond and I feel good knowing there are people there who really care and want to help. Then when I went for my filling, they were able to get me worked into the schedule for a cleaning. Today at my cleaning the hygienist Steve noticed in my chart that I needed a root canal and was able to get me worked in with the specialist today. The cleaning was fast and Steve was very friendly, and then he walked me back for the root canal right away. The assistant and doctor were very informative and quick, and it was a lot easier than I expected a root canal to be. I'm already scheduled for my crown at the Janaf location and overall I'm just extremely relieved to have my teeth taken care of and very grateful to all the staff there.
I believe all businesses have a bad day from time to time. However, I’ve encountered several issues while being seen at Spencer’s Dental on Holland Road. We have Dominion National COVA. It seems like every time we have an appointment the office verifies the insurance, which in theory is great. At my last appointment I waited 45 minutes for the insurance to be verified before I rescheduled to 01.07.2023. At the next appointment arrived 15 min ahead of my 1:00pm appointment and by 1:35 I was still not seen. I was in the procedure room for 30 min before I left. My Daughter needed a spacer placed. We waited 45 min in the procedure room before anyone came in the room, and it took only 10 minutes to place. The estimates for Dominion National are completely messed up in their system. My daughter’s appointments were over charged by $450. The office demanded I pre pay for these services. When I reviewed my EoBs and saw a problem, it took several calls over 6 months to Spencer’s Dental billing office, and Dominion National to put a credit on my daughter’s account. I was told there was a company address issue, and it needed to be updated with Dominion National. The office never seems to answer their phones, or return voice mail. My daughter had an emergency, and I called their emergency line. I left a voice mail, and never got a call back. The Spencer’s Dental company has a master scheduling department for the multiple offices except for The Holland Road office. I have now pulled all records from Spencer’s Dental and will not be returning. Today was the last straw. This company does not respect my time, or money. Most of the staff is pleasant including the manager, but the business protocols need work. I would suggest doing verifications the day before, as it saves time for the office and patients. If the practice is going to schedule 2 appointments at the same time and the same Dentist, try scheduling a patient for 30 min later so your patients have a clear expectation of when things will start. There needs to be better communication between the office and the various insurance contracts they manage, or stop having patients prepay before insurance has processed the claim.
I take my 7 kids here for both regular dental care, as well as orthodontic care. The staff is always beyond professional and helpful. We have literally felt like family everytime we walk through the door. Absolutely love our Spencer dental family
This place is horrible the company need to be shut down if you have other options do not go here you will regret it.Numerous visits and all bad experiences. They also extracted my tooth and now I have partial of the extracted tooth lodged into the roof of my mouth. Which got really infected and they kept forgetting to send my prescription. I will never go back I am so grateful I have found a more professional dental office for me and my children that treat us with gentle care.And the doctors are not experienced at Spencer Dental. Working in the dental field this place as so many red flags I have delt with this office for a few years and it has gotten worse. If you have an appointment there run if u can.
Quick, thorough, efficient cleaning. Staff was incredibly friendly from Ashley and Alana who did my intake and x-rays to Stacy who did my actual cleaning least unpleasant cleaning of my life and I’m not a big fan of going to the dentist from past bad experiences. Dr. Atkins was detailed in her explanation of my pain and her plan to fix it. Keshia helped get me setup for my repair plan and was very sweet. Deonte, the manager, really went out of his way to make sure I got the care I needed in a timely manner. Positive experience! I can see why this office is so busy!
I have had horrible experience at this location. I waited over 2 hours to be seen. The doctor did a horrible job with my extraction. The doctor forgot to send my prescription twice also stated she would follow up with my well being and never did. Staff is very generous and apologetic. This would be the second bad experience at this location for myself and my child for an extraction.
I always pay out of pocket because my insurance wouldn’t cover dental so I found this office who took my insurance and when I say “you get what you pay for” made an appointment in October that was scheduled for December and when I arrived they couldn’t find me in the system and stated that I couldn’t be seen either way because they don’t have hygienist on Fridays and I must’ve spoke with the call center. Come to find out my name was misspelled so I had to rescheduled for the upcoming Monday. So when I arrived I filled out paperwork and I advised them that I was pregnant. The previous rep who initially made the appointment never asked me if I was pregnant so I could’ve gotten Á clearance So they stated I needed to be cleared by my doctor to be seen. Then came back and said that I can get a cleaning but no X-rays can be done until I receive a clearance my obgyn is closed because of the holidays doc at this dental office said I was ok to get just a cleaning, then the hygienist is going back and forth with the dental assistant about he can’t do it because I don’t have X-rays when the doc already said it was ok! Then the hygienist comes back and said the doc said he can’t do it so which one is it??? Then the doc comes in and tells me she can’t so im like “you just told the DA that I could” she then stated that she was with a patient at the time she came in so she apologize. So basically you told her whatever without knowing??? First off you shouldn’t be given orders while with a totally different patient. Should’ve just waited until you were done with the previous patient! So I’m fussing and then she turns around and tell the Hygienist to go head and clean me. Im like really? “Never mind” and walked out. I understood that I had to have a clearance because of pregnancy but my issue is, why would you tell the DA one thing then tell the hygienist another thing, then when I fuss about it you’re willing to do it!???? Who’s following the policy??? Never coming back! I’ll just pay out of pocket!
These people are ridiculous. We have been sitting in patient room for more than 1 hour and 15 minutes past our scheduled appointment time. No doctor or any other staff has come in to speak with us. Did I mention the child is autistic and is currently beginning meltdown mode? Don't bring your kids here.
