Spruce Run Recreation Area

There's plenty of shoreline here to cruise (I've only ever kayaked here). The water level is currently (4/22/2018) very high and that means there are sections of trees and grasslands that can be paddled (I kept thinking it had a bayou feel to it). As is usually the case, the winds pick up in the afternoon, which can make headwinds a definite possibility.Lots of birds inhabit the trees along the shore, gold finches, herons, and a variety of shorebirds. There is a fee during "season" (summer?), though I don't know how much it is.

A place for bathing, boating, camping, fishing and picnicking. Many years ago my family used to visit this recreational area to do boating and fishing. Although recently it shows some signs of deterioration, it is still good palce for city people to enjoy a variety of recreational facilities and activities. It designed features for the handicapped including ramps, paved walks on to the beach and a fishing piers. In summer on weekends, it is busy and crowded. After Labor Day, walking around the area is very popular.

My parents been coming here since the early 70's. My childhood my spruce run. Keep it clean pls.

Was scenic. But no bathrooms open in off season. Not even portables. Not ideal for families with kids. Bathhouses understandably closed.

This is such a fun place to come with family and friends! The lake is clean and very well kept. The picnic areas are very spacious. Make sure to arrive early to be able to grab one of the picnic stations, as they usually fill up. Will continue to come!
