SSM Health Physical Therapy

In December of 2017, I sustained an injury which caused me quite a bit of pain to my neck, back, shoulders, elbow and hands. I tried first to go to a pain management doctor that someone recommended, but quickly decided against this because the doctor prescribed an Opioid to be taken three times a day, but never indicated to take only if I was experiencing pain so I felt this would not be the best plan of treatment to take at that particular time as I did not want Opioids to become my plan of treatment and become addicted to pain killers. I then decided that maybe going to a Chiropractor three times a week, would be a better choice as it did not require medication. After going for about two months, I was only getting a small minimal amount of pain relief. In fact, as the weeks transpired, my pain was only getting worse than better as I was beginning to get burning, stabbing, as well as pin and needle pain in my back, arms, hands, and face. I would have to lie down to get some relief as sitting even gave me pain. Most nights, I would only sleep two hours at the minimal before waking up with pain and having to take Tylenol or Aleve to get some form of pain relief to even be able to go back to bed. I then was referred to a specialist in Clayton, who took x-rays and did a one-on-one consultation with me. At that time, the specialist determined before giving me a Cortisone injection to relieve my pain, or to at least give me some form of pain relief, she wanted me to try physical therapy first. Since I live in Illinois and didn't want to drive out to Clayton two to three times a week, I decided to go the SSM Physical Therapy located in Swansea, IL. During my first visit, I was able to sleep for six hours straight without having to take any pain medication. I was given exercises to complete. The staff at the facility were very friendly and courteous each time I walked through the door and were always mindful to ask me how was my day or my weekend. The physical therapists at the facility really took the time to work with each client and they tried to work with accommodating your physical therapy around your work schedule. Each time I was going to therapy, I was getting more and more pain relief. When I went back to see the specialist, she was very pleased with my progress and how much range of motion I had. At that time, she determined that she would like to send me back to physical therapy vs getting a Cortisone injection which is not the most pleasant. Everyday I can feel my old self coming back and I'm getting back to doing most of my activities of daily living. I would highly recommend SSM Physical Therapy in Swansea to anyone who is experiencing pain as a 1st choice of treatment versus going to a Chiropractor, or if your other pain treatment options are not working for you. So call today, you won't be disappointed!

Karyle is awesome....she really cares about helping you get better. She listens and responds accordingly. Rachel who works the front area is very personable and helpful also with any questions about billing or scheduling. I would highly recommend the SSM Health Physical Therapy Swansea IL location.

After seeking treatment at other physical therapy clinics in the area, none came close to the education, experience, and care from everyone involved. I had a neck fusion and a shoulder injury. I do not think I would have made it through it all without their help. I have been able to recover most of my range of motion and strength as a result. They really take the time to teach you about your injuries and everything that you can do to recover. They helped me with everything from the pillow that I use, my work environment, and the exercises that would get me back into my life! I can not recommend this clinic more to anyone of every age!!! I am forever grateful!!!

The entire staff at this location were professional and competent in their roles. I was happy with the care I received and felt that they had my goals at the forefront of my treatment sessions.
