St Joseph Oratory

Story

St. Joseph Oratory is a new apostolate of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest at the invitation of His Excellency, the Most Reverend Allen Vigneron, Archbishop of Detroit. Grateful and glad to serve in Detroit, the Institute looks forward to meeting the local faithful and friends of St. Joseph. St. Joseph was established in 1855 and the church was dedicated in 1873. The virtually unaltered, stunning interior features and the rich heritage of sacred music at St. Joseph beautifully complement the sacred beauty of the Divine Liturgy celebrated by the Institute. Stay tuned for announcements about our new schedule of daily Masses, confession, catechism for all ages, Vespers and Benediction, and special events. Absolutely stunning church. Came for a seven church pilgrimage on Holy Thursday two years in a row. Parking is tight with a small lot across the street but you won’t be disappointed by the mass here and the parishioners . Amazing that they do the traditions Latin mass here to!
I have attended Mass at St. Joseph Shine about 5 times now, and each time is a glorious experience— reverent, wonderful times attending the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. This church is a beautiful piece of history and we are blessed to have it still with us. The Traditional Latin Mass is the truly Catholic Mass of all time. The priests and community are wonderful.
Beautiful post gothic French style revival architecture, the Knights of St. John International serve there, a noble order of traditional Catholic military order of knighthood. The priest or canons celebrate the traditional Latin holy mass, and was one of the few authentic steadfast sanctuaries of worship that stayed open during the pandemic, didn't enforce mask and moved contrary to the spirit of the age which was fear. It is a beautiful, free and vibrant community truly moved by the Holy Spirit. May the Spirit of the Lord be with you...
Truly an incredible place to worship Our Lord. The Canons of the Institute of Christ the King have transformed the church. Beautiful liturgy with all the smells and bells, dedicated altar servers, and a congregation who sings and chants along with the spectacular schola cantorum choir. God bless St Joseph’s!
My home away from home! This parish is truly one big family of God under the Immaculate Heart of our Most Blessed Mother Mary!
One of my favorite places in Michigan. Beautiful Church and Liturgy, solid theology and teaching from the Canons, and friendly and warm community.
Exciting parish, especially for those who are interested in the Catholic Church's pre-conciliar liturgy.
The Canons of the Institute of Christ the King are without question the most pastoral and dedicated priests we have ever known. The church is almost always open so that you can spend time with Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. And the one thing I found the most amazing is that no matter when you stop by, chances are you will see at least one of the Canons. They are just there, always, ready and willing to be priests and bring the sacraments to those who need them...which is all of us!
The first time I came here I was moved to tears. One of the most beautiful shrines I've ever seen. The preists were very reverent, and the sermon was powerful, he talked about the importance of our baptism and what it means to be reborn again as followers of Christ. Come enjoy the TLM at this shrine. It will change your life.
Church was open for me to take several photos and spend some time with the Blessed Sacrament
