St. Mary's is a community serving the heart, mind and spirit in downtown Kansas City. We welcome everyone! Join us on Sunday morning or volunteer in our soup kitchen on Saturdays. You'll find us working hard to live out the teachings of Jesus in the real world - loving God and our neighbors.
St. Mary's has been a welcoming parish to the LGBT community in Kansas City for decades, and is known for diversity. We're home to various arts organizations and one of KC's best performance venues for music. Our pantry serves about 600 hot meals and distributes 200+ bags of groceries each month.
Our building is listed in the national register of historic places.
Sacred spaces and active communities of faith enrich the life and identity of a city. We believe that Jesus’ teachings call us to serve the world in his name and particularly to serve the poor and those in need. We respond to that calling and invite other to join us. Our religious beliefs and expressions reflect a balance between scripture, reason and tradition. Too frequently, cities attempt to derive their identity and define their accomplishments only through the avenues of government and commerce. Such attempts neglect the need to engage the minds, inspire the hearts and restore the spirits of those who live and work in them. St. Mary’s Episcopal Church offers worship and spiritual care, balancing the teachings of scripture with human reason and the experience that informs and builds tradition. Our worship appeals to the mind, the heart and the senses. We undertake the care and preservation of our building, a spiritual and architectural landmark of Kansas City, and offer it to the community as an arts and educational venue. St. Mary’s serves the poor of downtown and others in need by providing food and assistance with financial management. We seek through our efforts to be a presence that brings heart, mind and spirit to downtown and all of Kansas City.
