This is probably my favorite and what I regard as the best German place in Portland. It does everything very well. If you want to have a weird authentic drink then order some of "diesel". It is hefeweizen and coke put together. An adult root beer float. All the pickled vegetables were sour and crisp.
Went here on a recommendation because I was wanting to try a good German restaurant. This blew all my expectations out of the water. We want to make it a goal to try everything on the menu. The staff was 10/10 super nice, helpful in choosing between different beers or bratwurst. Can't wait to come back, honestly was so happy we went out for this tonight. Didn't picture everything we got because it was too good to think about documenting! A very enjoyable experience. The restaurant has big windows that you can open and it's very airy. You may get an occasional whiff of cigarettes but not anything to ruin my mood. Good atmosphere all around. Can't wait to return. Kid-friendliness: There is a bar, but I saw a small child sitting with their parents. Plenty of room between tables to make it seem spacious enough for intimate settings.
This is a great German restaurant with great good and staff. I had the rabbit and it was delicious, fall off the bone tender. My husband had the sausage with sauerkraut. The sauerkraut was the best we ever had. Nice selection of cocktails and beer. The staff was friendly and helpful. Parking is street parking in a neighborhood setting. We will definitely be back
We enjoyed our stay, the beers are tasty, the atmosphere is chill, and offers a comfortable sit down. The service was mediocre as our food took roughly 40 minutes or more to serve. The food was fairly mediocre and pretty expensive. The schnitzel didn’t have much flavor and did not come with any substantial side. I think I enjoyed the beers more than the main course.
Really lovely. This German food was not heavy at all; rather, the beet rübesalat was light and refreshing on a warm night. Schnitzel was balanced well by the sides. Definitely get some of the house mustard... it bites back!
Great German food in SE Portland. One of the few place I give 5 stars. The wienerschnitzel is moist inside and fried just right on the outside with good breading doesn't taste like it came from a box like so many places. The pork knuckle is very rich and Smoky and juicy. The beer selection is good and goes best with their wonderful pretzel
Classic German bar in a great setting. Had a great experience here. Ample seating indoors and out are managed well with friendly and efficient service staff. Had a charcuterie board, beer cheese pretzel, and a few half liters of beers. Will become a regular spot!Dine in: YesOutdoor seating: Yes
Decided to come here to change things up a bit and enjoy some German food. I got the Lachs salmon while my spouse had the Jägerschnitzel, and my toddler had the Kartoffelpuffer. Overall the food was delicious and the service was great.
Best German restaurant in Portland by a long shot. We came on a recommendation and are sad we hadn’t found this place sooner! We can’t wait to come back to try more authentic beer, food and strudel!
What a truly wonderful place. German potato salad is warm, and tasty. The Currywurst was outstanding. But the star of the show is the Rinderbraten. Oh man. It was phenomenal.Food: 5/5
