My dog’s stomach flipped, and there was concern for a possible ruptured spleen. The vet performed emergency surgery that night and saved my dog’s life. Everyone at Steel City was so helpful, kind, and compassionate. They are easy to get in touch with, and I knew my dog was getting the best care while he was there. I would recommend this staff to anyone looking for an emergency vet.
Had to rush my baby girl to them last night. She injured her eye and they had to perform surgery to get her eye back in. They saw me through the window walking up with her and called back for nurses before I even entered. They immediately took her back. Lady at the desk was very kind and had patience with me, I couldn't think/focus on anything and she had to repeat a lot to me because my mind was in a panic. They explained everything to me. Walked me through everything. When the gentleman in the back brought me the estimate and I didn't understand, he took his time and explained everything to me, without making me feel stupid like most places do. They kept me informed on EVERYTHING with my girl. They did a good job on her and we are all praying and waiting to see if her eye will heal or if it'll need removed. They handled her with a lot of care. These people are amazing. Not to mention how CLEAN the place is. They cleaned behind each person, even in the waiting room. Didn't even smell like a vets office animal smell it smelled great and everything was SPOTLESS, which I imagine isn't easy to keep up in a vet. So big kudos to the staff there Thank you all for your kindness, patience, and care. I don't ever leave reviews, but this time I just had too.
I can’t say enough great things about Steel City Vets. They took such good care of my cat, Melon, and really helped me narrow down why she wasn’t eating. The doctor was very proactive with her treatment plan and they called regularly to give me updates and next steps. I had to call after I had picked her up to ask a question and the girl that answered told me how much she loved Melon which I thought was so sweet I highly recommend taking your fur babies here if they need help!!
The staff has always been amazing to us and for an emergency vet clinic and I consider their prices to be fairly reasonable. They have provided end of life care for 3 of my dogs and have done an emergency surgery and most recently wound management on my blue Heeler after an altercation between my dogs. They’re always super calm and compassionate and patient with me as they don’t always see me in my best state. Recently when I went for my heelers wound they went over the treatment options thoroughly and gave their opinions on which option to choose. When I left I felt confident in the care my girl received and in her recovery. I appreciate the staff here more than they realize! I won’t go anywhere else for emergency care for my 4 pups.
Very compassionate. My cat Oliver was made comfortable enough, so I could take him to Hope Animal Clinic when they opened. Unfortunately, Oliver passed away peacefully while at Hope. But I am so grateful that Dr. St James and staff helped to make my Oliver comfortable. Thank you
Steel City Vet was great with my cat Heidi. She had an allergic reaction to a bug bite and they were very through in examining her. They continued to monitor her until the swelling went down and it was safe for us to take her home.
Steel City Emergency vets have been our saving grace and I could not recommend this place enough. We were visiting in Birmingham when our baby girl Darla got severe lacerations to two of her limbs. We were highly anxious about finding a good and open emergency vet on Black Friday, especially with us being out of towners… We rushed her to Steel City since it was the closest, but more importantly the best rated vet we could find at the time, and for rightful reasons as well!! While we were informed the wait until she can be seen by the doctor could be upto 2 hours, our girl got prompt triage and stabilization procedures based on the severity and urgency of her injuries. We cannot thank Dr Irizarry enough for the excellent care that he provided to our baby girl. Thanks to his expertise and care, Darla’s wounds were wrapped and stabilized in such a way that perfectly set our dog up for the next steps of her treatment. Dr Irizarry has guided us in the next steps of medical attention our dog would need, at a time when we were utterly distraught and at a loss. He was optimistic yet realistic and was very tender in explaining to us the extent of our dog’s injuries and what to expect with her recovery. Knowing Darla would need to be transferred to a surgical unit at a hospital back at home, Dr Irizarry wrote up a very extensive and detailed report to explain the injury, and the measures taken to stabilize it to prepare us for an informed and successful referral. He gave the hospital a call to explain the situation so we could be sure the hospital she would be transferred to could indeed provide the care that she needed. The entire personnel at Steel City was very kind, prompt, caring, and attentive. Even after Darla was released and transferred to the hospital for her surgery, Steel City called to check up on her, to hear how she was progressing. For how serious our dog’s injuries were, we are eternally grateful to Steel City for the great work they did for us and our baby girl!!
Take your pets to the Trussville or Jasper emergency vet. My dog woke up in the middle of the wee hours of the morning with a medical emergency, so I rushed her to Steel City emergency where they charged me almost $400 for 30 minutes of care, and didn't even solve the problem. The only thing worse than their price gouging was the horrific bedside manner of the receptionist and the condescending attitude of the emergency vet. The office closes at 7:30 and they require that all animals be picked up by then. So if your emergency happens to take place at 6:30 you've got 1 hour to get in and get out before they kick you in your pet out. If your pet isn't feeling better within the timeframe you are told to take your pet to another clinic. Just seems to me if you're going to have to take your pet to a secondary clinic anyways might as well cut out the overpriced, and completely unnecessary step that is Steel City emergency. Save your money, save your pet, and go to a real animal hospital for emergency care.
We had to take our 7 month puppy here after a very bad cut on her paw. The ladies here were AMAZING. They were very willing to work with us on prices, we're patient and up front with us that their prices have sky rocketed. The vet explained everything very well and answered questions in a great way. Will definitely be back.
So thankful for the team here, especially when it’s close to midnight and options are slim. I brought my cat in for stitches and this place is great. It IS an emergency room so be prepared to wait and pay a chunk of change as you would anywhere else. Staff and doctors are amazing and my boy is quickly recovering. Thank you for all you do for our pets!
