Sugar Plum Bakery

My mom is turning 50 and The first picture is what we had showed them as the inspiration for the cake on Wednesday. When we come and pick it up Friday afternoon the day of her birthday this is what we get-some thing that doesn’t even look like the photo and honestly looks like it was done in 10 minutes. This was $80 down the drain. Actual We are honestly so disappointed as the cupcakes and other desserts. We’ve tried their taste, so good, but the presentation is just embarrassing and we feel as though we can’t even use the cake now. Horrified, to be quite honest and ashamed. Edited to update: Received a phone call from the manager Leah, who had immediately been combative/defensive about the situation. She was very unapologetic about the whole thing, and continuously repeated that we “didn’t pay for the outside of the cake. Nor did we pay for the writing.” This does not justify the fact that we were too embarrassed to even bring the cake to the event it was intended for. Extremely unprofessional overall. It appears that Leah had simply called only to be defensive. It really is a shame because the Specialty cakes looked so beautiful so it is absolutely shocking that we received a cake in this state. Prior to speaking to Leah, I had spoken to Mackenzie, who honestly was much nicer overall.

I was looking for a local bakery that sold those good ole homemade donuts! I decided to try this place after finding it on Google. With the construction, it's hard to get to but once you're there it's all good! Upon entering, I took a number and was greeted by a staff member immediately. Everyone was so nice and friendly there! I loved the decorated cakes that were on display and the pastries most certainly looked good. I ordered 2 original glazed donuts and 2 old fashioned donuts with a cup of cappuccino. The glazed donuts were really good but the old fashioned donuts tasted like the oil it was fried in. I took one bite and couldn't finish the rest. The cappuccino was kind of disgusting as well. I ordered it with the flavor but couldn't taste it at all. Overall the service and atmosphere gets a 5 star but the rest gets a 3 star rating from me. I might go back to try the other items! If I could give a million stars I would. Quite frankly I am at a loss for words on just how amazing of a job this bakery did. My youngest planned themselves a birthday party at last moment and left me 3 weeks to get everything together. I had placed my cake order with other companies first because of what my child was wanting princess toys on the cake ‍. My regular place had the baker out of town, the other ones were full and the one I thought could fulfil the order canceled it less than five days before the party. So to say the very least I was stressing out. Thankfully my husband could tell I was at the end of my rope and did some googling which led to Sugar Plum. He called them thinking there was just no way they would be able to get this done on time but to his surprise they were able to. The day after he spoke to them we went in person and placed the order. The results were phenomenal. Everyone at my child’s party absolutely loved it from the appearance to the taste and the cake was gone within seconds of the first slice being cut. I am beyond thankful for the wonderful staff here and the way they put me at ease and made a work of art with little heads up. I cannot wait to place the next cake order. Donuts are good just not happy that the cream filled appear to be smaller than they use to be. Overall though great donut shop and friendly staff.Food: 4/5

Visited in July of 2023. Very nice bakery but very difficult to get to currently with the consturction on the road. If you're coming from the wrong direction you'll have to go down to the next light to make a U-turn. We went around 15 mins before closing on a Thursday and there was a much more limited selection but everyone still found something they wanted. The employees told us that they bake more varieties on Friday and Saturday but we wouldn't be able to stop by on those days as we were leaving town. My suggestion would be to try and hit the bakery up earlier in the morning. We got the pineapple upsidedown cake, the chocolate lava cake, chocolate delight, key lime pie and cranberry scone. My favorite was the pineapple upsidedown cake. Partial as I've always like this cake no matter where I get it from. My second was the key lime pie. I just like that tart contrast with the sweet crust. They also had some cool cakes that if we ever needed some in the future while visiting Virginia Beach we would definitely come here to order it. While we were there the family in front of us was ordering a birthday cake too. Over all great baked goods, freindly staff and you can't beat their company's mission statement of helping those with disabilities with employment. We would definitely visit again in the future.

Love Sugar Plum Bakery. Donuts fantastic as are danish & cupcakes. I’ve yet to get the giant donut-maybe next time I have company. This bakery is way too close to my houseAlways fresh and delicious. Get there early before the donuts sell out!

The eclipse cake was delicious! Service was super friendly. I would recommend this place for the quality, array of baked goods, and amazing customer service I also love those story and want to support a business like this

Sugar plum factory did an amazing job on our wedding cake. We came in from Stafford to get married on oct 13 and when we came in on the 12 I ended up dropping the cake we had at around 1 oclock. My wife to be was upset and we went looking for bakery. We found sugar plum and my wife went in there and we were skeptical that they would be able to get it done by 1 on the 13 but figured we would try. The morning of our wedding my wife got a call at around 9 saying the cake was ready. She was worried that we didn’t even look at it but when we opened the cake we were very happy!

Wife purchased my birthday cake from here. The cake was delicious. I don’t know who did the chocolate ganache on top but it was perfect. Perfectly smooth, no discoloration and the sheen was perfect glossy and reflective. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone make a perfect ganache before this. Amazing. Keep up the great work!Food: 5/5

We were looking for a donut shop - but due to the limited selection of the places in VB we decided to try the bakery. It was the best choice! We bought a lot of different things - donuts pastries and cake. This place is phenomenal! The curd in the lemon donut amazing!Food: 5/5
