Sutton Clocks is one of NYC s cool underground shops.
Sebastian, who is the horologist can seemingly fix any problem with any clock. He learned his craft from his dad who ran the shop for 4 decades at the Lexington ave and 61st Street location. The shop moved to their new location at 218 East 82nd street in 2013. If you bring your clock in to get fixed they will give you a free estimate on the cost of repairs (this usually take a few days). If you have a Grandfather Clock or something too large to bring to the shop, they will make a house call, but you'll have to pay for that service. James says the turn around time for fixing a clock is around 2 to 3 weeks but it can sometimes run longer if there is a lot wrong or shorter if the trouble can be sorted out quickly. They also have a great selection of cool antique and vintage clocks for sale. The shop has a real cool vibe, it's like going back in time with all the ticking and tocking. It's also cool to see real artists that do all their work with their hands. So many of these arts are dying out. Especially with everyone pulling out their phones to check the time people seem to forget how a cool clock can complete a home. Or like Sebastian days the clock is the heartbeat of the home.
