Tabor Bruce Architecture

It's always a pleasure to work with Doug. We did our first project with him in 1999 after a brief stint working with a larger "corporate" firm in Indianapolis. Three projects later, we would never consider anyone else. Tabor-Bruce is a full service architectural firm. I've seen them draw and design-build everything from an addition to a client's back porch to a Platinum LEED certified apartment complex. Along the way, Doug's designed the interior space of many local Bloomington businesses, as well as iconic buildings in the downtown Bloomington area. Some of his projects include the renovation to the historic Von Lee, projects for Burnham Rentals, the Trulli Flatbread (now Finch's) and the Rubicon building on Kirkwood. Doug's has served for a longtime on the Historic Preservation Board, so if it's historic, there's a good chance that his firm has a hand in it, so they have a lot of experience with historic buildings and HPB compliance. Doug and his team have incredible creative vision and have always been dedicated to making the project work within the confines of the building code, without giving up the aesthetic that makes Tabor Bruce projects so unique. All of our projects have been design-build and it's been very helpful to have Doug's input on interior design and flow inside of the space. One of his strengths is his ability to walk clients thru the intended use of the building / facility / restaurant, etc. working with them them to imagine how small tweaks in design or layout can have a profound impact on the eventual usability and approachability of the space. Tabor-Bruce has designed three unique spaces for us. Each time, Doug has taken our ideas to the next level. Billing is fair, considering that Doug is very passionate about his designs and really puts a lot of thought and effort into everything he draws. He's very aware of code constraints and budgets, and works hard to select new materials or alternate materials that clients may not be familiar with, but can save a little cash in the build. Turn-around time on prints and changes are fast, which is especially helpful in design-build situations. The old saying is, "Measure twice, cut once." You can't be too careful when spending a lot of hard-earned money in your home or business, but I think you'll find that if you're in South-Central Indiana (or Illinois, b/c I believe he is also licensed there) you won't be disappointed with Tabor-Bruce. It's a delight to work with such a creative and professional team of talented architects and designers.
