I came to Tacodeli as it was recommended and had good reviews. I ordered beans and cheese, vaquero, and barbacoa breakfast tacos. The experience and the quality of the food underwhelmed me. The beans were salty. For me, the beans distinguish a good from an underperforming restaurant. The barbacoa taco was okay. The vaquero taco from which I only took a bite was also salty. All of these were served on a flour tortilla that was probably bought in a local grocery store. The tacos might have more character if served on a handmade corn tortilla. But what can I say? When the location gives a “trendy” feeling, atmospheres like these often lose the flavors and complexity of Mexican food. I will not be back despite good service.
Best brekky tacos, hands down! I have not had a chance to eat at a Tacodeli for over five years. We used to live in Austin and moved to the Midwest and now East Coast. Very few brekky tacos available and none nearly on the same playing field as Tacodeli. During out trip to TX this July, we hit up Tacodeli three times is 9 days. Once in Houston, once in Austin Domain area, and the final time in the Austin airport. My go to had always been The Otto but in the years I've been gone they added some other to the permanent menu that used to be revolving. I had the Otto, Akaushi Picadillo & Egg, and the Barbacoa Madruguera. All three were amazing as always and the Dona sauce just made everything an 11. My wife loves the Jess Special and the Vaquero; both are great but I love the trio I got. It's really hard to go wrong with Tacodeli so throw a dart and it's going to be good! I just wish they would expand to the East Coast. There is a massive void of good gourmet street tacos in this region from my perspective.
Great place for authentically flavored tacos! There was so much flavor in each bite I literally said yum every time I took one. The staff/customer service was great! Felt super comfortable. A PLUS is the outdoor patio on Washington Ave. with views of downtown, drool!
Tacodeli lies about five minutes from where I work so I finally decided to visit it for lunch. I ordered a birria taco and, I think, a frontera fundida. They were both very good and enough for a not-too-hungry lunch. Price for the two tacos, with tips, came out to be just about $12. Would I come back for another lunch? Hmmm... Maybe. It was a bit expensive for two tacos. Parking: Not many parking space.
STOP looking for a taco place!! This is the only one you need to visit! The flavors on this tacos are subreal, the people that work here deserves the best service Oscars or their restaurant equivalent. To my Guatemalan server you made my day!!Food: 5/5
Food was so salty I threw a portion of it away. The akaushi picadillo is the only reason for the one star - It tasted good where the beef wasn't overwhelmed. While I thought it was a bit salty, it was overall ok. Then came the Arrachero plate. Presentation was very good - three nice substantial steak pieces with Mexican red rice and refried black beans. I ate salt regardless of anything - steak, beans or rice. Using the tortilla didn't help one bit. Absolutely awful.
A terrible way to start the morning is to come here and pay $9 for 2 tacos that taste below average. Seriously what a joke of a taco. Save your money and make your own at home cause this is place idea for a taco is not what you need, it’s not what you want, definitely nothing your wallet and expenses needs. Staff and everything was nice but I’m sorry quality and quantity of food outweigh a friendly smile. Unless there’s a significant revision of price/quality/quantity of the product you serve. Burn the place down, collect your settlement, and find a new profession. $9 for 2 tiny tacos what a bloody joke
Tacodeli is a must when we come to Houston. Not only the tacos are amazing, the cheese sauce, Street corn...but the customer service makes your experience even better. Thanks Georgina and Ailyn for making our visit a special one, a great way to end our trip before heading to the airport.
I walked into Tacodeli hungry and frustrated needing good food and some kindness. I hit the Jackpot here. The food was absolutely delicious. Vegetarian options, vegan options, gluten free options. With the “Build your own” menu so vast, you can’t go wrong. Also the salsas are correctly labeled! The Habeneros is FIRE! I spent over an hour there with a friend, eating taco’s over a few cups of good Java! Highly recommend!
Came in today around 3pm to a very friendly staff. Asked for some recommendations and was given 2. Had 1 of the recommendations and 1 of the limited time tacos. Both were very good but that limited time drunken pork taco was outstanding. 4 different choices for hot sauce on the counter. Not very hot, the hottest is habanero but it was too sweet for my taste. Overall a great choice for lunch, will definitely be back to try more options. Parking: Plenty of spots, just go around back Dietary restrictions: I was offered a veggie options and was told about the different tortilla options
