Story

Established in 1961, The Bitter End is the oldest rock and roll club in New York City. The classic red brick stage backdrop and intimate vibe make this historic venue almost as iconic as its headliners. For over 50 years, our audiences have been blown away by legendary artists like Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, Lady Gaga, Jackson Browne, Neil Diamond, Gavin DeGraw, Woody Allen, Jon Stewart, Randy Newman, Billy Crystal, Tommy James, Norah Jones, Donnie Hathaway, Curtis Mayfield, and thousands more.

The Bitter End is located in the heart of Greenwich Village. We are open seven days a week and showcase live music every night, including singer/songwriters, rock, blues, jazz, funk, alternative, hip-hop, spoken word, a capella, and country. Every Monday and every other Sunday we host open jam sessions for newcomers and aspiring musicians, as well as an acoustic open mic every Saturday afternoon. At The Bitter End, you never know who or what you'll hear next.

Apparently one of New York's oldest rock clubs, established in 1961. Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell have all had performances here. A board outside says that July 23 has been proclaimed as the Bitter End day by the NYC City Council for its contribution to the city's artistic life
Seeing our favorite band at The Bitter End in April was our first big outing post-Covid and my husband’s cancer treatment. We bought enough seats for friends to join us. It all went off without a hitch. The manager was helpful over the phone and friendly and warm in person. The food was good and the drinks reasonable. We plan to go back when the band is there in September.
Legendary music/comedy venue. Reasonable prices, amazing staff. Always a good time
I love The Bitter End. Hands down one of the most important historical places for music in NYC and still a decently priced bar. Super friendly staff and a great, history rich, atmosphere. Def check out for a show sometime.
The music is great but the service is horrible. Rude waitresses, especially the redhair girl. My worst experience in NYC.Please don’t waste your money here!!! If I could give zero stars this would be my rate.
So we ordered drinks, food and apparently it was not enough and the waitress was harassing us while the tables next to us who only had ordered one drink she didn’t harass. I wouldn’t not recommend coming here. Plus we had to pay to get in. And don’t go to the restroom, it’s horrible!
Four of us stopped in a few days ago for live bands. Paid the $10 cover and sat down. Ordered drinks and solo waitress was overwhelmed. Rude female bartender strolled by saw our empty table. She picked up table sign pointed to “two drink minimum” and threw on table. We continued to wait another 10m for drinks. Bartender came by and proceeded to do it again. She was too abrupt and it was too loud to explain. Bands were good but hostile treatment had us irritated enough to leave early.
Just...yes. This is what I live for. Top tier musicians, cozy no-nonsense atmosphere, friendly people, stiff drinks. Perfect place for a heavy evening for your ears and liver. Thank you, Bitter End.
This is most of the amazing musicians’ home away from home! Thank you guys for keeping it going … always appreciate you!!
The atmosphere at the club is one of inclusivity- it doesn’t matter whether you know the bands or not, you can’t help but feel you are part of history. Great place to discover new music
