The Backroom was definitely where it was at. The quartet in the main room was groovy, but the conversation inside was so loud that it was very difficult to hear the music, even if one was sitting right next to it. I thoroughly enjoyed the music in the backroom which appears to include a new artist every week. The music was intimate and the crowd was there for it. The service was excellent and prompt, and the spicy black bean burger I ordered was very good, though the sweet potato fries were way over salted which is fine, I had napkins. Overall, a good experience for the backroom. I’d skip the front room for music, however.
Great place to hang out with friends, absolutely not for a romantic date, company gathering, or families with young children. They have live music, and the night we were there, they had open mic comedy night in the back room. I would check their website for the event calendar. There is no need for a reservation. Street parking is available, but finding a spot may be challenging. Vegetarian options: Mediterranean platter
Great time in the Burren back room eating a St Patrick's Day classic boiled dinner, listening to live Irish music with an incredible Irish step dancer. Multi generation band, traditional ballads, sing alongs and tales of the history. Truly incredible entertainment in authentic atmosphere. Not some tourist trap but the real deal.Food: 4/5
The Burren is one of THE BEST American “Irish Style” pubs n the Boston area. Super great beers, drinks, food and fun camaraderie all n the front, Live music from local and national acts in the back. Outdoor sidewalk seating seasonally.. highly recommended Kid-friendliness: Weekend brunch has a terrific family menu and amazing evening fun with folk music.. it gets a bit adult-y by 7-8pm but my kids have always loved that.. we used to go to Doyle’s and James’ Gate in JP in the olden days.. similar vibe!
Great atmosphere & delicious food. It was nice to see a wide variety of Irish Whiskeys. It was fun listening to the Irish music. They also had dancing in the Backroom. Specialty drinks were unique & reasonably priced. Worth the visit.Food: 5/5
This is a truly special taste of Irish-American at it's finest. My only complaint is that I don't live close enough to be a regular. Traditional Irish music jams every night, good Irish food, friendly but solid bouncer, smiling and skilled waitstaff, a bartender who moves at the speed of light even when the house is packed to the gills...the decorations are spectacular snapshots into history and music...this place is 10 stars all day everyday.
I was surprised to see how vegetarian-friendly the menu was. Hummus and spinach appetizer was great; however, we had to order a side of pita chips because it came pretty short on crostinis. vegetarian. Shepherd’s pie was very good. Definitely want to go back and try the fish and chips. Service was friendly, but wasn’t able to keep water glasses from running empty and the entrees came out almost immediately after the appetizer, contrary to our specific request. Seating is uncomfortable, and it can get pretty loud in there. That being said, would definitely go back. One bonus on the side: very reasonable prices.
Great music and food. Had the veggie shepherd pie, and the music was fantastic! Grain Theif, a local Irish band, was playing, and they killed it.Food: 5/5
Do yourself a favor and try the fried mushrooms! We are new to the area and took a chance on a new place for a burger. Food was very good. Our waitress was helpful and attentive. My only complaint was it was very warm inside, but it’s summer.Food: 5/5
This place is a treasure in Somerville. It is located right near Davis Sq. The best Irish American pub. Nice and pleasant music and friendly environment.
