The door is the reason I was able to legally change my name, I am eternally grateful. Ever since the pandemic started, with all the new rules & regulations in the courts, simply applying for a new name change was stressful and limited resources were available. The legal team has helped me in many ways, and was also able to assist me in changing my identity documents once my name change was approved. The door organization is so essential for the community, especially for POC youth.
Overall a great place if you’re a young person in need of support. I get free healthcare, food, and counseling from and I love it. The only thing is they have so many staff members and each one seems to have very different knowledge of the program. So if someone leaves you without the care you need, find someone else and their answer will likely be different. For example I came in for food one time and the receptionist told me food is only available for kids in foster care, the second person I spoke to said they didn’t give out food at all and he didn’t know what I was talking about, and the third person was like yep! Right this way we have the pantry with non-perishable food you can take, and hot meals are served at ex. times.
Best organization in my opinion, the change my life in 2012 by helping me get my immigration status. Now I am done with college and have a beautiful family. Thank you the Door and thank you Mrs. Pouja for all the help. thank you and God Bless this organization and United of America.
I went to The Door from 16-18 years old, and they helped me with every aspect of my life. I could get a fresh meal, counseling, free medical care Melvin was my doctor for years and housing assistance. I recommend them highly.
It's a great organization that gives you the help you need, they have friendly staff who put in every effort to help you reach your goals. I personally received help with college counseling and everybody I met in that department have been wonderful and very helpful, shout out to Miss Anjie, although she no longer works there, she was an amazing counselor to me and I enjoyed my time working with her.
They helped my son to get a good job while he was in school.I told everyone about this program,Thank you for helping our youth.
a very poor choice of a foundation to start off from... the honest truth is this organization is a great place to come visit or see a friend but its very under-maintenance is the support prospective how can your support be so effective if you consistently change up the staffing for the one's who genuinely came to work. its frustrating seeing the diminishing program go down the toilet but the issues just don't stop there but you'd have see it too believe it You be the judge... this establishment is to support disconnected youth for them to have created a better and brighter path to success but I truly find it almost insulting to i, myself to compile myself to come out of my shell "because I am a introvert" and share personal information about myself and my family and or friends to a complete stranger who is certified by law to handle my s.s.i # and Identity card if the person who originally sat down with me and told me I can trust them, now disappears and now I'm stuck re-informing another stranger the same information its tricky, its a bit scary. but than again this is from my P.O.V
The door helped me a lot. At the time I was a wild 21 year old in the process of trying to get my life together with the need of knowledge and guidance. I went to the Ged program eager to get my ged and the teachers went above and beyond. They taught real facts and were so real , unlike a lot of teachers of today. They also answered questions and were so patient. I went to school right before summer break and the teacher allowed me and whoever to learn during the summer break. I was the only one thst really showed up and she was so cool and printed me worksheets and worked with me one on one. I was without a home and always hungry and they served actually nutritious and good food that was cooked so good for breakfast , lunch , and dinner. Alot of drop in centers don't have good food. There was even a homeless drop in center open everyday to shower , nap only for 2 hours on chairs but it was something , do laundry , a case worker , and you could have access to a small locker for belongings. On Saturdays they were open and had amazing like Cafe upper class food so good. During the day staff would make cookies too sometimes. There was open space for games such as air hockey and ping pong. So cool. They even had little art classes , dance classes, music class ,and so much more to entertain and the opportunity to make new friends. It's really an outlet to get ones needs met , get them to work on their goals , and to entertain away from life's problems. They even had a gynecologist on the site and free glasses. Even if no insurance they helped. They gave free condoms and stuff and that helped me a lot because I was during tricks at the time and Noone judged me but helped me have peace of mind by keeping me safe and testing me for hiv and other diseases so i knew I was safe. The staff always was there to talk and listen and make me feel connected to someone that cared at a time where I lost with who I was and what humanity was. It was all love. Now I am 25 years old and if I was of age I would Def wanna go to a program like that again. The peers were very nice and non-judgmental too. It was all love honestly and so amazing. At the time I was shy so engaged a little. But I still loved it. I'm now in my hometown reading pa and my dream is to make a place like the door out where I'm at to help people the way the door helped me
Trash organization. The Bronx Youth Center is the worst.
The door is a decent place and it all depends on which staff member you work with. I had a horrible experience with one of the receptionist, she would be very rude towards me. The dentist straight up lied to me about not having any cavities. However, my primary doctor here is great at what she does. The therapist wasn’t too bad either.
