The Engine Room is the most horrible club/business I have ever been to in my life. If I could give a negative 5 stars I would. The staff outside was rude and all over the place. They looked and were unprofessional. We spent hundreds of dollars for my nieces birthday party to find out 2 guys in our party that were 20 years of age could not come in to join the celebration. Which one guy was my nieces boyfriend. And after speaking previously to staff that approved their entry back doored and changed their mind. They claimed the men couldn’t enter although their website says if you have a section you can still get in if you are 18. They explained only the women can get in under 21 because of the bottle service in sections. This is sexist. Either way it goes male or female they would still be under the legal age limit to drink. Half of the party left. The manager was rude and looked like a unprofessional homeless man. I will not beg anyone to take my money. We just went and gave our money to another more welcoming club nearby. Thank you but no thank you. Don’t go here.
The engine room is OK. I’ve been there about 2 times and it was always the same. I’ve been both of a Friday and Saturday. The parking is self parking but they charge you $20. To get in for women it’s $20 and for males $30 on a GOOD DAY because they have tried to charge me $40 before and I just refused to go. The bathrooms are quite digussing and they need to update them immediately. It’s always crowded though so that’s a good thing. Women have to wear heels or they won’t let you in. There isn’t much dance room because it’s full of sections. The club is ghetto and the crowd is predominantly black Americans. Like i said this club is ok but it wouldn’t be my first option.
If you want to “be seen” or “show off” this is the place for you. If you actually want to have fun, not so much. I had reservations to get in free before 11:30 I was in line forever! Finally got to the front of the line at exactly 11:30 and of course they still made me pay $20 EVEN THOUGH IT WAS THEIR FAULT THE LINE WASNT MOVING. Parking prices are ridiculous, drinks are way over priced, the set up of the club is really awkward not giving you much room to dance unless you’re in a section of course music was decent though. But it was super packed and very hot like the ac was broke or something. Definitely won’t be a regular here AT ALL.
This has been the WORST club in Houston that I tried to get to. I had on tennis shoes last nightI'm a female. the reason I had the tennis shoes on last night is because I had been working all day. my nephew told me last minute that they would have a section at this club the engine room. When I got there I pulled up to the front and I asked him if I could come in with tennis shoes on. At first they told me I would have to pay $20 but I told them that I was not going to be there long and I was only going to be there with my nephews who has a section just to tell them happy birthday. They told me okay that I would have to get in line with them to come in the club. Cool. I got in line with my nephew who had the section in their club and they put the band on me check my ID and when I got to the front they told me I still had to pay $20 to get in because I had on tennis shoes. Really? $20 just because I have on tennis shoes why? I don't understand what kind of sense that makes. That was pure discrimination towards me because I guess I wasn't half dressed in 30 degree weather. or I didn't have weave hanging down my back? Or a dump load of make up on? I understand that clubs have certain policies that they have to follow but why do I have to pay $20 because I have tennis shoes on. If that's the case just tell me I can't come in. Not only that I was in line with one of my nephews friends and they discriminated against him because number one he was white and they claimed that he was drunk. He was not drunk. He had not even had a drink that was the purpose of him going into the club to have a drink. And the officer that was standing up there told him that if TABC comes in and sees that he's drunk they're going to be in trouble. Well that's stupid as hell because you failed alcohol at your Club so nine times out of 10 and you're going to have drunk patrons in your Club. If I was him I would sue them for discrimination. The bouncers or security guards that's at the front of the club are rude as hell. I don't know who the short heavy-set black bouncer is but he is on a power trip. I guess this is his first time being in authority and he's using it to the best of his ability because he was very rude. That's why black folks can not get ahead because because they get a little Authority or position over somebody and think they can talk to people any kind of way. That's not how that works I will never go back to this club and I would never recommend anybody to go to this club. Y'all need to make some changes. If y'all want to go to a club or y'all are not judge by what you're wearing if you want to go to a club comfortable with a track suit and Tennis Shoes on I suggest you go to the address 5015 or any other club besides the engine room. they judge you by what you have on. I'm a thirty-five-year- old woman who knows the law and knows how things are supposed to be handled. Last night they did not handle a lot of situations the way that they were supposed to. As long as this club has been around it's a shame that they act the way that they do. I don't recommend anybody going to this club. My nephew said it was wack as hell anyway
Line backed out the door. They were not honoring the Eventbrite RSVP and only accepting cash instead. Very shady. Bouncer was rude and demeaning and embarrassed me in front of everyone in the line. Probably a good thing we didn’t go in because considering the line, everyone was probably packed like sardines inside, which would be against code. Hopefully they get better staff that knows how to treat people. Wouldn’t go back.
1/2 star if I could and that would be generous. Awful experience. We paid over $200 for a guaranteed section for 18 people and when we got there they said everyone after the tenth person had to pay $20. Had this been discussed prior, it wouldn’t have been an issue. Poor management and rude bouncers. Definitely will be picking a different venue the next time I come to Houston.
Worst club I ever went to I payed $200 for a section for my 18th Birthday. It was the first club I been to so I had no idea you had to buy a bottle of wine for $240 more per bottles and they wanted me to buy 2.I should of been informed of the cost ahead time. It was a wasted $200. Me and my guest were kicked out of the section by very rude people. My $200 was non-refundable. I would not recommend this club to anyone. I am looking into my legal rights to try and get my money back.
This club... lounge... whatever pushes an insane amount of advertising, basically spamming my email to come out for a FREE RSVP to see "insert one hit wonder musician here" "live" but when you arrive will probably not let you in once they have enough of a line to get cocky. I went here with a small group of very well dressed guys and gorgeous ladies whom had all gotten prepared for the event. They denied one of the girls we were with and several ladies in the line for not having heels and then preceded to kick out any more people who were not 21... well not 21 and not attractive as two of the ladies in our group were not of drinking age just yet but were allowed to go in. I'm not even surprised at these rules considering it's downtown but they were not stated on any flyers, posters, website, ad, email, nor does anyone pick up the phone. I looked specifically at the dress code and it's pretty dishonest for them to change it up whenever they feel. This venue wasted our time, effort, and patience and made me the organizer of the night look like an ass to those who were rejected. We will not be returning... at least until the club is shut down a few months from now and bought out by someone else .
Went to engine room to celebrate my birthday on 03/31 and had the worst experience ever. I paid for a section and was never told that I had to buy 2-3 bottles to stay in the section. I was not about to buy that many bottles for 5 people. I was kicked out of my section for not buying 2-3 bottles which was crazy. They didn't try to find me anywhere else to sit even after I told them I wasn't paying that for 5 ppl.I had paid $150 for a section that I was only in for 1 hour. Then to make matters even worse I went back outside to get someone else in my section that holds 10 guest and was told that my section was full which after arguing with them back and forth that my section had only 5 ppl my guest had to pay $20 to get in. I will never return to engine room. You should not have ppl selling sections if they don't know what the full details are. I would have never paid my money to be treated like trash. If I could, o would give them zero stars! I ended up going somewhere else and had a much better time.
