This was my last restaurant experience of 2022, and what a high note to end the year on! The experience of this restaurant engulfs you the minute you walk in. You are greeted by modern and classy yet cozy decor and large windows with great views of the city. I was glad we arrived a little early so that we'd have time to absorb the beautiful touches throughout. I started off with a drink from the bar - Hey Toots. I wouldn't have tried this drink except for the tequila base, cause based on the ingredients, it could have been really good or really bad. Thankfully, it turned out AMAZING, just like every single dish we ordered. Speaking of the dishes, we tried several, and every one was delightfully delicious. My only regret was that I couldn't try every item on the menu. Our server, Kathy B, was spectacular - so patient, knowledgeable, and perfectly pleasant. Thanks to The Gray Canary for a truly wonderful dining experience!
Was an amazing experience for my first time there. Went with a friend and both got the Porter House Rolls, Smoked Fish Dip, Oysters from WA, and each a Coulotte Steak, paired with a cocktail from happy hour. Our server was excellent, and so was the wine manager/district manager.
I highly recommend this upscale restaurant in the downtown Memphis area. The atmosphere is great and the food is even better. We had the fried calamari, carrots with kimchi sorghum glaze, Harbison cheese with pear-ginger jam and squash donuts.Dine in: YesTakeout: Yes
Wonderful dining experience! The space is beautiful and not crowded, the service is perfect, and the food is delicious! What more can you ask for?
I have enjoyed a fair amount of elegant fare in my life, and this... Isn't it. The staff was amazing, friendly and attentive, but the food was just barely edible; overly salted, odd combinations. There comes a point where creativity goes too far. I am happy to pay a steep price for excellent food, but the flavors of the dishes here are pretentious without substance.
MY NEW FAVORITE RESTAURANT!! Our server, Michelle, was so wonderful and kind and had amazing recommendations. I highly recommend for an extraordinary meal and drinks. The pork chop is KILLER.
Reviews are based on experiences. This place may be spectacular, but we had a less than ideal experience. In fairness, the restaurant gave us a break to see if some people we were waiting for would arrive. When it was clear that was not gonna happened, we placed our order and things were moving forward as expected. The hush puppies were great and we enjoyed them a lot. Drinks were also good. However our main plate did not arrive even after waiting for 40+ minutes and asking 3 times about it. With a plane to catch, we had to cancel the rest of the order. The waitress was helpful and only charged us for the mimosas. However, for a place with so much hype, I was expecting more.
An absolutely amazing experience with the staff! Just the sweetest people and super accommodating! I had been across the hall listening to the live music and decided to check the place out, I spent the time at the bar with the kind bartenders but I loved the vibe of the place as a whole! I hope to come back to experience the food as well next time!
We really enjoyed this place for a quick bite. The cocktails were great and loved the atmosphere.Food: 4/5
The Gray Canary has tied for first on my list of best food in Memphis. The cocktails are also superb. Service is efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. Thank you to Michelle, our server, for taking great care of us. About the food....started with two out of there oyster choices. Perfect, sweet, slightly briny and so fresh. They were out of the third kind. Contrary to popular opinion, I like hearing that the restaurant is out of this dish or that. It tells me that they bring in fresh food that they plan to serve for the day, instead of some endless supply if frozen fare from the industrial freezer in the basement. Twice I heard it tonight. Plus, it gives me yet another reason to go back. The vegetables had flavor and crisp. The lobster salad was just right with crispy lettuce cups, the asparagus was buttery smooth and charred just enough to add a delicious smoky flavor and covered with lump crab, the celery root, the tuna tataki with the peach on top, finished by the pièce de résistance, the perfectly hardwood-charred, crispy, juicy, fatty, flavourful pork chop bathed in a sweet green tomato sauce. It's rare to find a place where you can leave stuffed, and yet so ready to go back and eat more. Even the smoke outside as we left the restaurant made my mouth water again. My compliments to the chef and his team. Can't wait to go back.
