The High School for Math, Science & Engineering

I went to this high school. I received a quality education and do stand out in a crowd because of it. However I struggled while actually being here because of the lack of support from my teachers. When I lost focus some of my teachers actually picked on me and made me hate life even more. One teacher suggested in front of an entire classroom that I didn't want to succeed in life, and looking down on a struggling student here is the norm among both teachers and students because of the somewhat cut throat atmosphere. If you don't get good grades you don't matter kind of attitude. I enjoyed the sports teams and the structure of the school days with their "block" scheduling. Please continue to lend support to students who don't do as well and even seem like they don't care. There is a large Black and Latino population here that can be overlooked at times. My friends and I talk about these kinds of experiences and are glad we all got through it.

From first glance, it is obvious that HSMSE is superior in every way to the other 8 specialized high schools of New York City, most prominently, Bronx High School of Science.
