The Institute's mission is to teach and enhance artistic appreciation and expression in the children of our community through professional instructors and role models in a safe and nurturing environment. We achieve that mission through five core programs whose goals include:
• Providing economic and geographic access to high quality arts training for urban and underserved youth.
• Expanding the leadership and job-readiness of at-risk teenagers via mentoring and training.
• Developing specific collaborative initiatives to address the evolving needs of the community including academic support, population targeted projects and parent/youth programs.
• Fostering community through regular communication with, gathering of and celebrations for families and area residents featuring the work created by students.
Summer Camp: Provides an intensive program that instructs youth in a variety of artistic forms daily, 5 days a week, for 5 weeks in July and August.
After-School and Saturday Classes and Private Lessons: Offers 24-week sessions of private and group instruction for students in musical, dramatic, and visual and culinary art disciplines.
Youth Leadership Institute: Hires and trains outstanding Institute teens as classroom and office assistants, and offers incentives for saving earnings for post-secondary training.
Friday Night Teen Arts Program: Gathers 50 at-risk youth each Friday night to support each other through the challenges of urban teen life.
Community Outreach: Develops collaborative programs for institutional partners, bringing arts programming to at-risk youth at schools and community sites.
