A fascinating museum, regardless of how much you may like tennis. It's housed in a gorgeous building and many of the architectural elements have been retained on the interior which really adds to the feel of the museum. It's not just the International Tennis Hall of Fame; it really is a museum of tennis history, players, and overall culture. There are traditional cases as well as interactive elements and you can easily spend a couple hours here and still not see everything. I found the early tennis history elements particularly interesting playing in a corset? no thank you!, and I really appreciated the information given on women's history in tennis and efforts to break the color barrier. It really brings you all the way to modern times - 2021 inductees are highlighted, and within the cases, you'll see very recent items and stories. Given that it's not a general sports history museum, they are able to get deep into tennis culture and history, and even the most well-versed tennis aficionado is bound to learn something new. My interest is only casual a few summers of tennis lessons two decades ago, but I found plenty to be entertained by and feel I gained a new appreciation for the sport.
How do you review a hollowed institution? Let’s go for it. First of all it has a great location on a busy strip. Second of all the staff is exceptional. Special shout out to Julie, the volunteer Director, who answered all of our questions and even gave us helpful restaurant recommendations. Finally, the museum itself is beautiful without being too gaudy. You get the information you need in a concise and interesting manner. If you get a chance, go in the summer whenever their tennis tournament is going on. The vibe is incredible.
A friend came to town who is a tennis instructor from Texas. He couldn't believe that RI had the International Tennis Hall of Fame. We had such an amazing time. So much to see along with so much history. Wasn't crowded at all and the employees were so friendly. Wish we had gone a little earlier. We were there for two hours and we really could have used maybe another hour. But I highly recommend it.
This is a must visit if you are a tennis fan and know the history of the game. Grounds are free to visit, and no reservation is required, but if you want to visit the museum, then the ticket is required. I really wish that museum has it own paid parking because it is a major inconvenience to look for the parking around this area. Person at the front desk of museum who is very welcoming if you decide to visit the museum. There is a small gift shop to buy souvenirs at the entrance.
Beautiful place to visit!! Super fun and very interactive place. The staff was very friendly, and the gift shop had some cool stuff. It was quite a bit overpriced thoughVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$16–20
Fantastic experience for anyone interested in the game. Spent an hour total there but one can easily spend 2+ hours reading all the detailed exhibits and history. The Rafa and Barty 2022 AO champions' autographed outfits were the highlight
Must visit for tennis fans, a hidden gem in Newport. You can even sign up for a game in the court. A beautiful place to walk around.
Loved our time at the International Tennis Hall of Fame. My entire family loves tennis so we decided that a trip to the International Tennis Hall of Fame would be on the itinerary during our trip to Newport. We decided to visit on a early Friday afternoon. There is metered parking in front but we were able to find the parking lot along Freebody Street, which only acommodated about 10-15 cars. I believe there is another lot as well. The grounds were lovely and well kept. You can pay to play or practice on the grounds though I don't know the prices or schedule restrictions. There is a larger stadium there as well, which hosts some popular tournaments from time to time, most recently one in July 2021. The HOF Grounds also, obviously, hosts the Inductee Enshrinement Ceremony each year. The museum admission is $16 for adults but $13 with a AAA discount. Kids 12 and under are free! After admissions you have to leave backpackes downstairs and Im not too sure about strollers you can then go upstairs to the museum. The museum has tons of interesting information and exhibits. It takes you through beginning of tennis and how it evolved into the sport it is today. They have exhibits on various rackets and tennis outfits throughout time which I found very interesting. There are lots of memorabilia worn by players during their milestone matches throughout the museum. They also explain how various tournaments came to be. There are some interactive exhibits including a microphone where you can call a match as an announcer! There is a large room with all of the Hall of Famers going very far back. It was nice to see players honored throughout time. One of the more interesting exhibits in the Roger Federer hologram room. It is a small dark room and when you enter it, a hologram Roger is activated. He tells you 10 reasons why he loves the game of tennis...it last for a few minutes and was pretty cool. We learned a lot at the museum, especially my 10 year-old. There were a lot of players and history that he was not yet exposed to...so the fact that was admitted for free and got to experience and learn so much was awesome. There is also a gift shop/store but they were closed for lunch at the time. Overall we had a great time at the Hall of Fame. It is an absolute must for tennis lovers...especially those with little tennis lovers in the family.
What a spectacular and fun location for a welcome dinner party the day before the wedding! This is a great venue for a party, guests were all so delighted and I had a blast photographing their excitement. Everything was well run and there were so many fun and candid photo opportunities in this unique location.
The International Tennis Hall of Fame is located in the historic building which used to be called the Newport Casino. The grounds and surrounding area are absolutely beautiful along with the perfectly manicured grass courts inside the complex. The museum itself is pretty small, but had a lot of interesting exhibits about the history of tennis and the stars of the game. Even a signed copy of some 50-year old adidas Stan Smiths! Definitely worth a stop even if you're not a big tennis fan, or at least stop by just to walk around the grounds and take in the sights.
