In the mood for fresh oysters this was a recommendation. Street parking available on a weekday after 6pm. This place could be so much more if better managed the waitress and waiter were excellent but it could better. We ordered roasted oysters, fresh oysters and oyster basket sorry only pics of oyster basket. The food was great the drinks were great. They probably need to have a dedicated cashier, oyster shucker and bar tender for a much better experience for customers. Oh the Mayo old bay mix was a substitute for tarter sauce I’m still on the fence with that combination.
Stopped in with my wife and my sister for one thing after watching "Fresh, Fried and Crispy" on Netflix -- the "Colossal Sandwich". This spot is one of the most popular spots inside the hip, Mount Vernon Marketplace. Before sitting down, we did a quick lap of the marketplace and it was obvious this place was special. Buzzing with folks around the bar and at the high tops, it felt like a place where you just want to hang out. But like I said, we had a craving for one of the most over-the-top sandwiches I've seen in a long time. This "colossal" sandwich is stacked with soft-shell crab, bacon, crab cake, lettuce and tomato on Texas toast served with their signature "Old Bay-o" sauce. Unfortunately, we went when soft-shell crab wasn't in season so we had to settle for the "Mini" version of this sandwich. Fortunately, the "mini" was all that we needed. It was still stacked, but instead of thick Texas toast it was on a soft toasted bun and the soft-shell crab was only slightly smaller than when they're in-season. Overall, the service was great and the sandwich was absolutely worth the trip. Maybe next time we'll check out the other menu offerings :P
Very nice place and food is always good. Busy spot so be patient with the staff they are nice and friendly and try their best to get you everything you need as fast as they can. I love coming here but the parking is a bit rough no fault of the marketplace or local oyster just a heads up of you want to check them out. It's worth itFood: 5/5
There is no sign outside of the building but the address is correct. The whole place is a food court w about 10 or so different food shops inside. The Local Oyster offers limited type of food but their oysters are fresh. The service is great and family friendly. Some limited outside seating. Meter parking only.
Food was decent. The colossal sandwich is definitely not as it's name described. Not worth the 39 bucks! The staff was very friendly and the drinks were great. They use all fresh fruit. Parking: On street parking.
First timer. I wasn't impressed. However, I eat with my eyes and the picture of the colossal sandwich was definitely deceiving. The crabcake was the bomb. All crab no filler just how we like it. I will go back in the future. Shout out to the servers! Jet and the oyster shuckerother guy, sorry we didn't get your name. OH! the oysters were on point. Also, the fried oysters were delicious. Going to try to something different on the menu next time. Thank you all again for the awesome hospitality and service!
If you like friendly banter and fresh oysters this is your place. We go to have the Fried Oyster Sandwich accompanied by a dozen oysters to share. It reasonably priced and the staff is welcoming and informative. Highly recommend.
If you ever get a moment, visit this spot. I traveled from NY to MD just to taste the Colossal crab sandwich. It did not disappoint!! I am not a fan of oysters but I had some here and they made me a fan lol. The experience along with the food was great. Go there with your friends. Go there with your family. Meet the crew. Have a few oysters at the bar. Taste their colossal crab sandwich. Most importantly, get the experience and have a great time!
This was the first time my partner and I have been to the local oyster. I saw the colossal crab sandwich on Instagram and wanted to try it. The sandwich is defiantly an experience but the crab cake was WAY too salty from too much old bay. Really messed up all the other great flavors. We spent almost a hundred dollars with sides and drinks. For that price you’d expect to get what you paid for but the sandwich was just too salty. I would have rated 2 stars for that issue with an expensive sandwich but they do have the best lemonade I have ever tasted in my life. Worth a star on its own. The freshly squeezed lemons just take it to another level. We agreed that we will not be coming back for another sandwich. I hope they take this feedback to the kitchen.
We came here for the Colossal Crab Sandwich. It looks nothing like the famous picture floating around but is definitely delicious and worth it. The oysters are delicious. The staff including the owner are friendly.
