A regional museum that informs the visitor of Alexandria's complex history. I like the way it tracks the rise of the town until the devastation of the American Civil War, and then the struggle to find relevance then after. The physical development of the town is explained. Special exhibitions are good March 2019: Alexandria and WW1; and a display of clothing items from the 19th century. The building, respectfully restored, is a fine example of early architecture in the town. Well worth a visit.
Interesting and offers shows incorporating local talent such as improv groups. Helps to make Alexandria the great place it is.
The Lyceum is a free museum in Old Towne Alexandria. It contains information of historical people and events of Alexandria. Also, included are artifacts and some furniture of pre and after Civil War years. Cute gift shop. Upper level can be rented for events.
It is an excellent museum. The emphasis is on history from a very local perspective. For me, the best part of the building is the concert hall on the 2nd floor. There Sunday chamber music series is unique.
Wonderful exhibits on Alexandria's history with lots of artifacts and images. Also a gift shop. Great place to start a visit to Alexandria as they have walking tour maps.
Excellent host and quality displays of old Alexandria and black history. Short film and moderation by Robin Hamilton.
My first visit left me with great impressions. For a few hours I was back in time learning about the birth of Alexandria and more. That was complimented with a Lecture about George Washington. A must visit for all.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYesPrice for adult entry$11–15
Nice little local museum. Alexandria is a wonderful town full of food and history. And no visit to the Old Town is complete without at least a visit to this museum. In fact I grabbed a wonderful guide book to Alexandria from the gift shop at this location. Staff was nice and I would suggest any visitors to this city, be if for just a day or longer, stop here to get an overview of the history and what is available to see.
Great place to learn about colonial Alexandria. Opens your eyes to the historic significance of the city. Will make plans to further visit this old town again.
Really Cool Spot to check out, they have A LOT if not almost all the presidents.
