Story

The Mad Potter is a “paint-your-own-pottery” studio, where children and adults alike can try their hand at becoming the next modern day Picasso. Groups and individuals of all ages are inspired by our piece selection, design tools, idea books and friendly instruction & paint pre-made ceramic pieces from coffee mugs to plates, pet bowls to figurines and much more!

How does it work? It is so easy: Just drop in to one of our 3 Houston area locations, pick a piece from our extensive inventory, design your piece, pick your colors and then enjoy painting! Leave it with us and we'll glaze & fire it, and in 3 - 4 days your masterpiece will be ready for pick-up.

"The Mad Potter is a pottery painting studio that was founded in April 1998 with its first studio in the River Oaks Shopping center on West Gray St. in Houston, TX. If you are near River Oaks, we are a great venue for kid birthday parties, adult birthday parties and corporate events. We accept walk-in customers at any time during our normal business hours. We had my daughter’s birthday party at this location last weekend. Everything was wonderful. Our host was very helpful and accommodating. She came through with a cake knife and forks when I forgot to bring my own. The party of 12 ten year olds ran very smoothly with her help!

My friend and I visited The Mad Potter on a whim in Memorial Day. It seems like more of a family oriented place as most of the people there were parents with small children. Regardless, my friend and I had fun. It is a bit pricey and you have to return three days later for your item but it was fun. Ps: You don’t really make the pottery item, you just paint it.

So much fun! Whether going on a date or just hanging with friends, this is a great place to let out your inner artist. It's easy to get engrossed in the process of creating a wonderful masterpiece.

Great selection of pottery pieces and paint colors. Staff is genuinely nice and helpful. Overall a fun, calm place to go.

I had so much fun creating my coffee mug. Can’t wait to go back and create something else. The ladies there were super nice when I came in, and when I picked up my item. Unlike other places, they contact you that your item is ready and I really liked that.

1 star here! My friends and I spent 3 hours painting pots. Only when we went to go pick them up a few days later we’re we informed that one of them was broken. They offered and we accepted a refund on the broken pot, but it would have been nice if they had saved the broken pot rather than threw it away. I’ve made plenty of pots over the years and sometimes they can be glued back together.

We brought my toddler there to make a gift for his grandpa. The quality of the mug, and all their other choices, come out beautiful! There's a glossy finish to each one with whatever it is that they use. It feels very premium. Even small writing doesn't smudge or run during the final process. Beware though that it takes a couple of days before you can pick it up. Worth it though!  I did remove one star because we originally tried to run in one evening to get a home-kit, we showed up 30 mins before closing we would never just sit there right before closing, we're not those people. But as we walked up, they were closed, despite their site and door saying they were still open. I get it, it sucks to have someone come in before close and just stay for an hour... I honestly get it.  Overall, I still recommend it to anyone looking for a sentimental gift.

We had a great time at The Mad Potter, the staff was friendly and very helpful.
