Story

The MAMMOTH was founded in February, 2012 by Aron Conaway and Hallie Jones who purchased the warehouse property in downtown Louisville, KY located at 744 South 13th Street from Cundiff Moving and Storage.

Short-term - Our focus is directed at developing the storage business. The storage facility is 23,000 sq ft, located on the third floor of our property. Building on our client base inherited from Cundiff Moving and Storage, we seek to provide residential customers in Louisville KY with bottom price rates on monthly storage. Our open warehouse We-Store model allows us to offer household storage customers extremely low commercial warehousing rates.

Long-term - Doing business at The MAMMOTH means you are supporting a locally owned storage facility with a mission to develop a thriving arts and cultural space. Our long-term vision is to develop the first and second floors of The MAMMOTH into a mixed-use arts and cultural space. We plan to offer private studio and performance space for visual artists, performing artists, and musicians. We are also working toward developing membership-based group studios for artists and creatives who want to practice their craft in an economically and environmentally sustainable way. Group studio space will include: Photography & Video Studio, Darkroom, Printmaking Workshop, Woodworking and Sculpture Shop, Ceramic Studio and Kilns.

Mission

Why we're doing this:

Besides needing large studio spaces near our living space, and wanting a community of people to work around, we recognize that there's a problem with the fact that Louisville has very little in the way of artists run warehouse space. We know other people also think that Louisville needs a place for new possibilities. This is an opportunity for people with dreams, skills and energy to come together and make something as a community. Imagine another local art cooperative/ more art studios/ open meeting spaces/ an installation space and art gallery/ live/work spaces/ an independent media center/ band practice spaces/a great live music venue/ a truly unique film viewing space/ a recording studio/ an underground local music.art museum/ more community gardens and green space/ sculpture gardens/and who knows what else?

Access to an open workable, community run space will give artists and other creatives an opportunity to invest in themselves by having the choice to either rent or (eventually) purchase the space they work in year after year, while themselves being able to interact with other artists and like-minded people. We handle household and office storage, commercial bulk, and also have a climate stable cellar for wine storage. Our freight elevator can accommodate lots up to 106”x 123”x 95”.
