Story

Located in a sophisticated, yet eclectic home in Portsmouth, VA is The Mermaids’ Porch Bed and Breakfast, a locally-owned and operated B&B that takes pride in offering personalized visits for each of our guests. Staying at The Mermaids’ Porch is a lot like staying with your favorite aunt -- you’ll be pampered, but never intruded on. Our wonderful innkeeper Dawn feels that “the innkeeper makes the bed and breakfast” so she strives to offer the best service possible for each guest that stays at The Mermaids’ Porch.

When you arrive, Dawn and her furry doorman, Jack, will greet you with a smile and a beverage to quench your thirst after your trip. You’ll then be taken on a tour of our bed and breakfast, with historical commentary courtesy of Dawn. After the tour, Dawn will show you to one of our three rooms so you can get settled in. From there, we’re here to help with any recommendations for activities around town or help with dinner reservations!

Breakfast at The Mermaids’ Porch is served depending on when our guests wake up and we’re happy to accommodate a variety of dietary or allergy restrictions. We strive to provide our guests with a truly local experience when they visit, so we use locally-sourced ingredients in all of our breakfasts. Our eggs, meats, and produce are from the nearby farmers’ market and our dairy products are hand-delivered weekly, courtesy of Oberweis Dairy. Each breakfast is served with your choice of juice, coffee, or tea.

The Mermaids’ Porch Bed and Breakfast has a number of excellent amenities, including free WiFi, a hot tub, a fireplace, and free parking (both street and a nearby lot). We’re within walking distance of the Ferry, which takes you across the water to the Hampton Roads Naval Museum, and are a short drive to a number of other interesting local attractions, including the Chrysler Art Museum, Virginia Sports Hall of Fame, the Commodore Theater, and more.
