Had a great time at the Piano Room celebrating a friend’s birthday. It was my first time, and I didn’t know that they do open mic, as well as performances by the bartender, and pianist. It was packed on Saturday night, and the crowd made it that much more fun singing songs by Journey, Adele, Neil Diamond, etc. Will definitely return for the music and the generously poured drinks.
As my good friend Steve says, "this is the best bar in KC". We have been going here for years but I always wanted it to stay a bit of a neighborhood gem. Now that Heather has won best bartender I guess the secret is totally out. So happy for them to get the kind of recognition they have always deserved. Heather is a multitasking marvel who sings, makes killer strong drinks, and can make change all at the same time. She is so talented as is the rest of the PR crew!
We came out for karaoke on Tuesday night and it was just ok. The drinks were good but the karaoke rotation was too long and no food. Seemed like the host was more interested in getting people to vote for the pitch “best of”than getting people up to sing. The rotation was centered around the regulars and favorites rather than “everybody”. Too bad. Wont be back and won’t vote for best of karaoke.
A friend took us last night, wasn't sure what to expect, but OMG what an awesome experience. Heather owner and star sjnger is simply amazing, slinging drinks whilst belting out tunes on her headset mic. Brenda bar tender extraordinaire, also known as Donna has the best "you people all need to calm the F down and what can I get you to drink" face I've ever seen. Everyone is so pumped up, loving the atmosphere it is contagious. Possibly the icing in the cake is the angry piano player who throws shade on bad song requests!
It's been a really long time since I had this much fun at a bar! What a cool crowd. I want to go back every Saturday night. Ken on the paino was hilarious. Sadly I can't carry a tune in a bucket but he was a good sport about it. Heather was killing it slanging drinks and singing!!! Wowzers Loved it!!
In 2019, my friend and local musician, Martha Haehl, invited me to sing and play I'm a bassist at the open mic on Wed. evenings. That was my 2nd time singing in public in my life; the 1st was at another friend's birthday party. Since then, this little slice of time has become a mainstay for my week. The open mic scene at the Piano Room was dormant by mid-2020, but now it's up and running again. There's a great keyboardist/trumpeter, Ken Page, who MC's and can provide good backup to your musical ideas if you like. My hat's off to people who are exploring their talents, doing rather than watching on a Wednesday night. This is the coolest dive, and a welcoming and supportive audience awaits! Come check it.
I LOVE this place. I’m becoming a regular on Monday nights when the jazz collective Plays. Wish I could go other nights but I work. Blown away by the singing bartender-Brenda who “slings and sings” she doesn’t miss a beat while Pouring or letting you pay. What a gem! Feels big city but cozy and oh so cool!
Cheap drinks, singing bartenders and smiling faces all around. What more can you ask for in a neighborhood bar?
Great little dive bar that is part karaoke and part piano bar singing. Down to earth no keeping up w the Jones here. All are welcome.
Kept on hearing about this place! Group of seven went in for a birthday last night. Heather, Kevin and all the staff were amazing. Super talented as well! We were very welcomed, great drinks, great everything! Definitely memorable night!
