The Saint Street Inn

I really want to like this place - the food is great, the atmosphere is the closest I've found in Lafayette to being a real neighborhood bar (like a real city). I am a neighborhood patron, and would like to become a regular. Problem is they don't have enough chairs to accommodate the people who come here. There is more table space than seats. Go figure. This seems an easy problem to solve, but they persist in not solving it. In addition, there is a real disparity in the way one is treated by staff. One night they are very accommodating and go out of their way to make you welcome. The next week you are told you cannot be seated and that every seat has been reserved (and this night is less busy than the night when every effort was made to be accommodating). One of the draws of this place is the porch and the outdoor seating, but the indoor bar and restaurant area could be just as appealing if some attention were paid to the interior design of the place. I'm not suggesting complete overhaul, but some relatively inexpensive attention to decor and ambience would help.

Great local eatery with a delicacy & care not often seen, even in local restaurants. The changing menu based on the availability of items adds to the uniqueness of this spot. They care about sourcing fresh ingredients & each dish is thoughtfully prepared. The day I went, the special was a pulled pork chimichanga topped with queso. It was better than any chimichanga I've ever had from anywhere. The burger was also slam up. All handmade, right in house. Parking is a bit tight, so plan ahead if you're going in for the lunch crowd.

Unique and excellent food. Different specials every day. Set in a charming older home that has been updated.

Was excited to try this place after a friend suggested it. We drove in from out of town and granted arrived at 8:40. The place is listed as as closing at 10pm. I get that you don't want to have a table of six rolling up at closing time, but we were a table of two rolling up over an hour before you close and the hostess first ignored us then came out and said "ok but the kitchen closes at 9." We went across the street for poboys at old tyme and they were SO friendly and the food was delicious.
