A very welcoming atmosphere with delicious food and great service. They are a non-profit and use the money to build schools in poor countries. The live piano music is the cherry on top.
My husband and I absolutely adore The Saloon, as well as Keenan and Commy! They have a great selection of draft beer and moonshine, and the fries are always fresh and crunchy. We highly recommend making this your go-to bar and the best part — they are a nonprofit that builds schools all over the world! Our friends recently bought us a “brick” for our wedding gift and we couldn’t be more honored. Love, Yui & Charlie
We stopped by here for a quick drink and really loved the relaxed vibe, cozy atmosphere and nice bartender. We had a bit of really good moonshine before catching a reservation next door at Archipelago and the whole time I wished I was back at the Saloon.
Great service behind the bar. The comedy shows every Friday are hilarious. Good beer selection, and the Bleu cheese burger was better than most bar food. Go support this non profit!
Community non-profit bar with an all-are-welcome vibe. Drink housemade moonshine or european drafts and help start a school. Wednesday nights the upstairs bar and mezzanine open up for Open Piano, where local musicians and music fans gather for an in house recital - anyone can play or sing. A diamond in the not-so-rough-anymore.
Everything about the Saloon is divine. All profits after expenses are donated to build schools worldwide — and their on the 24th one! The owner Commy is absolutely wonderful & welcomed my friend who moved into the neighborhood with a plant. Plus, catch Kevin host the most magical open-piano nights every Wednesday from 7-9 on the second floor! Top moonshine as well.
Great quiet place to get a drink and have a conversation. A welcome respite from the rest of U street. Excellent beer selection and the food is quite good as well.
Walk down a few steps into a place where Belgian Trappists meet Syrian/Ethiopian clerics for a Cold brew, garlic fried favas, and perhaps a game of backgammon. No martinis and no TV! Keep your phone in your pocket. Luxurious service. Exotic and extensive beer list plus moonshine & classical music. Open your heart.
I came here a couple years ago with my parents, and we stumbled in randomly a little before they opened without realizing. The owner welcomed us in with open arms. The food, drinks, service, and atmosphere were the best I've ever had. Additionally, the owner showed photos of the schools he funded across the world, which just showed how incredible this man is. I can't recommend this place enough and the moonshine is just an added bonus!
Somehow crazy but special. I am still not sure if their story is authentic or just a business strategy but we liked it a lot there :
