Story

Opened in 2002, The Video Underground initially sought to offer an alternative to the more traditional and mainstream world of Blockbuster-style video stores, which -- oddly enough -- don't really exist anymore. Today, the VU specializes in independent, cult and foreign films, while still bringing in new releases, time-honored classics, and everything in between.

The Video Underground is also your place for premium beverages, snacks, and more! Whether it's a tea, coffee, espresso drink, smoothie or a quick snack, we've got you covered and then some.

Additionally, The Video Underground is Jamaica Plain's best place to catch a movie. With weekly screening events that span all eras and genres of film, we hope to foster and grow JP's interest in cinema and provide a place for comfortable, walkable evening entertainment in our neighborhood.

We are dedicated to creating and maintaining a video store that reflects the Jamaica Plain community, the city of Boston, and the interests of our incredible customers.
