San Jose, CA: $15 admin fee for $6 tolls. Customer associate never mentioned it upfront. No transponder offered with the car. No option to pay cash/credit card while crossing the San Fransisco bridges. So be careful!! Read the fine print when you rent from Thrifty, even at 11pm when you are tired from a long flight.
The website and even on their door says that they open at 8, but we were told by the hotel lobby staff where it is located that the staff never arrives before 9. We waited till 10 before cancelling our booking because no staff showed up.
Thrifty Car Rental at the Harvard Square Hotel, The People who manage the office DJ and three other people very nice and helpful. My mother and I rented a mid size car 4 times within the past three years from this location, and have had nothing but great things to say about there service. When we returning the car, sometimes later then after the office is open we are able to leave the keys at the Hotels front desk, for the Thrifty staff to get in the morning with no issues at all. Over all great service and very nice people
Not bad, but if you want quality and pay for it, look elsewhere. Actually I first wanted to go to a competitor, but they declined my prepaid credit card which had $10,000 on it despite having opposite policy on their website. So I found this one. First time: nice to drive, but somewhat picky Chevy. Full of dents, but well - I paid Economy, I got Economy. Worked fine, returned without issue. Second time: Chrysler. Somewhat uncomfortable to reverse for my taste huge dead zones. Car in perfect shape. I had forgotten to tell them about the options selected online, but they were nice about it and gave me the child seat for free. Return without issues. Third time: another Chrysler, with a few minor dents. However, the front right tire was broken losing about 1 to 2 PSI per hour, so I had to fill it up with air four times cost me $4 and total 15 minutes - no big deal - and I know their roadside assistance would have covered that, just can't wait that long with two very active young boys. No other issues, return went well and quick as usual. So all in all: you won't get quality cars here. But the pricing reflects that - I remember paying way more at e.g. Hertz. The people there are nice too. If it hadn't been for that tire defect, this would be 5 stars in the budget category. And you can even come here if you're new in the US and don't have credit or a MA license yet. BTW: as opposed to some competitors, no upselling. Always paid what I selected online even if I got a different car, plus insurance. Insurance itself is a bit more expensive than elsewhere, but that matches the cars that seem to have had some... history behind them.
I live in the Boston area and do not own a car. I rent from this location at least twice a month. I have been doing this for more than 3 years. I used to rent at the airport but prefer this location. The price is always competitive, The service people are friendly and courteous. I generally get the car I requested. Only complaint is that sometime, about one in four times, the car has not been thoroughly washed. I plan to continue to rent here as long as I do not own a car
I made a reservation for a car about two weeks ahead of time. When I got to the location, they were closed *and had been for over a month*. It took several calls to reach a Thrifty agent, who then told me to take hires car to their location with a Park Plaza address in Boston but located on another street. They did reimburse the expense, but no one should have to work so hard to pick up a reserved car.
I called ahead to make sure they'd be open on Sundays and they said yes. When we got there we couldn't even find them because it didn't say they were located inside of a hotel lobby. We tried calling and it just went to voicemail. We finally found it after circling the building for 20 minutes and there was no one there. The hotel employee said she'd gone to lunch & he called her to let her know we were there. She could've at least left a note on the door!So we had to wait 30 minutes for her to return. She said she gave me a free upgrade on our car and when we went out to get it there was ONLY one car available!!! I will never rent from them again!
Great customer service, lots of smile and quick service. We decided very late to rent cars for the week of 4th July holiday. Most places were sold out or their prices were prohibitive. However, this location thanks to Ms. Malyun, lady at the front desk we were able to get 2-new camrey’s with less than 10k mileage and very reasonable price. She is the best and we will be definitely going back to do business again.
Thrifty got me into an accident. On the off chance corporate actually cares I won't mention employee names since I don't want anyone to lose their jobs EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Pros -convenient location -accessible by T -Cheap prices -service that tells you what you want to hear but not what you need to hear Cons deceptive up sells -high pressure sales/ guilt tactics -conned a kindergarten teacher into an accident I've driven 18 plus years perfect driving record ever since i first got my license until today when i was demanded to move the perfectly parked car from the parking lot below the Thrifty's car rental sign to another. 25% my fault for renting from a business & for responding to such an insane request and then dinging the side of the upper parking lot that has worn out arrows, poor traffic flow and a do not enter sign on the front of it! 75% their fault for poor parking design, deceptive high pressure tactics and demanding that i re-park. That never happens at enterprise this location is good if you desperately absolutely positively can't afford anything pricier. If you at all can afford the extra $20-$40 of renting somewhere else I would strongly urge you to consider that but only if you value convenience, punctuality and reliability. To be fair to them, it must be hard all day for the one employee to be out in the hot humid concrete parking lot making min wage and for the other desk employee hearing all us customers whine hour after hour. When i waited one traveler asked how long is it to the airport from the rental location. The employee replied :oh it's easy you'll make your flight walk to your right. end of conversation me: Sir with three suitcases it might not be so convenient. It's six stops and a change at south station. thirty minutes be an hour tops. when is your flight? traveler: 4 o' clock employee: don't listen to him sir, you'll make your flight easily. me: it's 2:30 now. you'll just make it... but it won't be pretty. traveler :oh really? thanks Then turns to employee I need a ride to the airport then. me: drat, I'm sorry to hear that. That will cost you $15-20 traveler: shrugs gestures at employee. employee: sighs dials phone I need one ride to airport motions step outside sir. someone will come. same employee that promised everyone a car within five minutes -- The catch. This is a satellite operation of the airport. Also no thrifty cars are allowed here overnight signs in places stating overnight cars will be towed at renter's expense..meaning every day their car lot starts EMPTY. Iwill change once i get raped by thrifty corporate for the 2 inch scrape they got me into. I waited more than 90 minutes for my car yesterday. To be fair I did show up an hour after my designated registration, but the five people in front of me waited just as long if not longer than I did one person 2 hours with his lady wife from Iceland I think Thirdly, it's a small location with barely enough room for five customers to stand with luggage plus two employees and two computers.
Great service! I was in a serious pinch and Malyun at Thrifty really helped me out. I needed a car at the last minute after Hertz down the street closed at 4:30 on a Friday really? after having allowed me to book for a 4:30pm pickip.. At first it looked like there wasn't going to be a reasonably priced car at Thrifty, and I thought I would have to go to Logan to get something, but Malyun was able to make it happen for me at a lower price than what I had booked at Hertz!
