Thrifty is by far the worst rental company I have ever utilized. The lack of customer service is disgusting. DO NOT RENT A CAR THROUGH THRIFTY. We rented a car in August of 2021 from MSP Airport for several hundred dollars >$500 as we were planning to drive it cross country to bring my daughter to school. When we arrived at the airport and checked in at the counter, we were told we had to wait an additional 30-45 minutes while the team sanitized and cleaned the vehicle per COVID protocols. I waited for the car and my daughter returned to her apartment to finish packing up. After hitting the road with the car we began to realize how disgusting the interior of the car was -- sticky substances on the surfaces, white substances spilt on the arm rests, EMPTY ALCOHOL BOTTLES littered throughout the car, and tons of hair, crumbs and trash granola bar wrappers littered in the interior. Immediately, we called Thrifty on the phone only to be told that we needed to submit a formal complaint online. I did that within the hour and here we are a year later and we have heard nothing from customer service regarding the complaint. I followed up several times by phone and spoke to a different customer service representative each time only to be told that they were working on it. Then when I called at the end of September they said they had closed the "case" because I had agreed to a discount on our next rental NEWS FLASH: I never agreed to anything. I asked for a full refund. When I said I did NOT agree to that as compensation for what had occurred they said it's been 30 days and all claims have to be processed within 30 days, so it was now case closed. The latest email we received stated: "We also checked prior to your reservation and did not see any documentation associated with the vehicle complaints." Absolutely pathetic. We even spoke with a representative here in Boston when we returned the vehicle, and they did NOTHING to help us. Told us to submit photos and concerns online.
Thrifty is the worst company I have ever dealt with. Not only did I have to wait 2.5 hours for my car after the reservation time but they also charged me for insurance that I did not want. Based on the other reviews this is a clear scam that they consistently do and have had class actions brought against them for. The customer service line does not have options to speak to an employee. It took me hours to get through to someone after being put on hold and hung up on. Ultimately they did not resolve my issue and I am disputing the fraudulent charge with my bank. Everyone should avoid Thrifty and Hertz the parent company at all costs.
Waited 3 hours for my RESERVATION. I paid for mid size but given an economy car. The car was sticky. The trunk would not open . The key fob stopped working and I couldn't get into the car with the key in the freezing cold. The car was loud , two years old with about 50, 000 miles. Thrifty is the same as Hertz btw. I'd avoid both in the future .
This company is actually a joke. I have no idea how they are still in business. I should’ve took it as a sign when I seen multiple customers walking away from the counter very angry to go through a different company and now I know why they were so angry you basically pay for the car before even knowing what the final price is going to be I had to make a credit card transaction before anything was even started that’s when I first started to become skeptical about renting a car with this company after they already got my money I was then told the price is gonna be around $470 which I figured it was gonna be more than that anyway because I am only 23 years old but I’ve rented in the past before with different companies and it was under $700 this time it was over $900. They basically told me it’s in the contract that I signed and there is nothing they can do for me and from reading all the reviews it’s pretty clear that they do the same thing to everybody. It’s actually comical because this place is far from thrifty.
Great! Pick up was smooth. Staff was awesome and super friendly and helpful. Drop off was seamless and stress free. Will choose Thrifty again.
Scam. This was a total scam. I paid for my car rental through Priceline. When I got to the Thrifty check out counter, they asked for my credit card as a deposit, in case there was any damage upon return. They then asked if I wanted insurance. I stated that I already had rental coverage insurance. When I returned the vehicle, I saw there was a charge for $250 on my credit card. When I called their customer service line, they stated that I agreed to the insurance charge. Since I had already signed the contract, which I thought was for the damage deposit, Thrifty stated that it was a valid charge. Be careful, they will try to scam you!
Thrifty is by far the worse rental car company I have ever had the displeasure from renting from. If I could give them 5 middle fingers instead of 5 stars I would. I rented a vehicle to drive for my dad's funeral. The brakes were bad I had to exchange the car when I reached Atlanta for another car and the brakes were just as bad. The customer service was horrible the staff acted like they where incompetent and clearly didn't know what was going on. The car they gave me was filthy, I had to pay to get the car cleaned. There was broken glass on the floor of the car and smelled really bad. I wouldn't recommend renting from Thrifty to anyone spend your money elsewhere.
If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. When you pay for a service, you expect that service to come through. Thrifty doesn't believe in customer service. My parents and I booked this car service through Expedia. From Minneapolis we took a flight to Chicago, and our reservation with Thrifty was for 7:15 PM. We got there around 7:30 PM and they told us no cars were available. We left from Thrifty at 9:00 PM. Why make a reservation when you're not going to fulfill that reservation? I felt like Jerry from Seinfeld. Not only did they not have cars available, their service was absolute garbage. The representatives are not happy with their day jobs. We missed a special occasion and dinner because of this nonsense. Who is the CEO of this place? They need a tight slap.
Do Not Rent A Car Here. No matter what. Doesn't matter if it's direct or through Priceline. Similar story as many others. I rented and PAID for a car in advance through Priceline. Nothing else was due, I paid everything in advance. When I went to pick up the car, they asked if I wanted insurance, ugprades, etc - declined everything. I only wanted to get what I already paid for. The person at the counter cleverly gave me a "receipt" that was the exact same dollar amount to the cents as the Priceline reservation. I figured that's what it was - a receipt. Turns out, she charged me for an upgrade I never asked for, nor did I agree to, verbally or in writing. Had to spend hours on the phone with Priceline and Thrifty and bank to resolve this. DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. THEY WILL SCAM YOU.
Rented out of Minneapolis Airport and was extremely fast getting the car. There was a line everywhere except them. Car was nice and clean. No issues or surprise charges.
