In the world of grade inflation, "everyone gets a trophy," and lowered expectations, this center is a glimmer of light. The teachers are demanding, call on the students to make sure they are paying attention, are not afraid of reprimanding poor performance while guiding for proper techniques. The masters at TONCHU are training my son for LIFE in the real world. My son is learning the difference between "passing," "good," and "excellence" as he decides to push for the best he can do. I love the way the teachers challenge the students, firmly, yet clearly in a caring way . This place is a rare jewel for children.
My daughter started taking classes at Tonchu Vinings before her 4th birthday. We are still taking classes 2 years later. The instructors are so patient with children. Really unbelievable . . . like child whisperers! It is so nice to have another authority figure for your children to look up to and aspire to be like. Also, a great birthday party venue. The instructors do it all for you, from decorating to cake cutting. I can't say enough good things about this Martial Arts school. Would recommend you come in and try a class if you are on the fence for you or your child. We will see you there!
I do not recommend this Taekwondo school. Read other people’s reviews. I normally do researches before I do anything but with these guys I made a terrible mistake. I knew I was getting into a contract, and only skimmed through the text superficially. I didn’t read the entire terms of agreement. Do your research. Learn from other people’s mistakes, from mine and other reviewers’ here. Look out for a 3-year contract they get you sign that you cannot get out of unless you move to a place that’s more than 25 miles away from all of their 4 strategically spread school locations around Metro-Atlanta, or you their student should be disabled. If you’re in Atlanta you are stuck with them for 3 years. During this COVID-19 stay at home advisory and schools closed they were open and sending emails that they’d remain open but had to reluctantly close eventually after everyone. However, they force everyone to continue getting training through Zoom without first getting their consent. Not all people live in residences that’s convenient for such mode of training. Some people may be living in small apartments that won’t make trainings at home possible or easy. I’ve asked them to temporarily suspend my daughter’s membership and pause their monthly electronic bank draft until we get through this COVID-19 situation as I’m not working to earn anything as well as my wife losing her job, but they refused. They only care about themselves and besides, while they teach about respect, integrity, etc... me and wife aren’t treated respectfully by Master Chun. I’ll never give up and will continue to find ways to legally break this contract. Terrible toxic contract. Stay away.
One of the best Martial arts locations in the NW Atlanta area. Really great with children and suitable for adults. This program has changed my life, from networking with clients to helping individuals that really care and wanting to better them selves. Tonchu is the BEST
Instructors are knowledgeable and skilled. But Tonchu is way more expensive that other great martial arts schools in the zone. Tonchu only allow students to come to training two days a week while other schools allow 3+ classes a week. Lastly, Tonchu will send students to collections. Beware of their contracts.
If you are seeking a total fitness opportunity that addresses the whole person—body, mind, and spirit—Tonchu is the place for you. I began in December 2014 and have advanced to my green belt, mostly under Head Instructor Stephen Chun at the Vinings location. His ability to balance patience and challenge to students, both children and adults, is impressive. I observed his patience and excellence in teaching before signing up and it is what has kept me coming back for almost a year now. I have found the same to be true of his colleagues, as well as of Grandmaster Tony Chung. I know when I earn my black belt in a couple of years, it will be in great part because of the excellent instruction of Stephen Chun and his encouragement and belief in me. The rest is up to me!
During the time my children were part of the school everything was ran very professionally, very clean, very solid values being instilled on the students etc. However, after about a year I had to pull my kids out of the school due to financial reasons and we had to move from the area of the school. I spoke to Mr. Johnson in person, and he said no problem just send us an email so that it is in writing. I did as I was told and wrote the email, very basic since I had already spoken to him in person. My email was never replied to, however. A year later they post a $10,000 collections on my credit reports, mind you I paid monthly the entire time my kids were there, now they are trying to charge me for the time and services after my kids ceased to be their students; never even tried contacting me again, before this collection surprise, not a single bill in the mail or anything of that sort. Anyway, I contacted them, was told they have nothing to do with that, it’s the place they have set up to collect the monthly payments doing it, basically washing their hands not their problem if they ruin someone’s credit, and limit their opportunities. So I fought this collection with credit bureaus and off course it was removed, as it is ridiculous to try to collect a supposed debt that isn’t actually owed because no services were provided by them after my kids were pulled out. I thought ok great, it’s over. Now 2 years later, a different collections agency is on my credit for the same school. I still get no response from Tonchu to my emails, and my credit yet again in the garbage. Why? Because I put my kids in This martial arts school and then had to cancel because I had to move from the area, what a great sin to pay for, huh? They teach the kids all about integrity and responsibility, but when it comes to their own they wash their hands, if there was a problem with me cancelling, then why pretend that everything would be fine? Why say oh ok no problem just send an email if this is what they were gonna do? Wash their hands and ghost you. Not exactly the example kids should receive from people preaching values to them. I’m extremely disappointed because they seemed like they walked like they talked.
The children I nanny do Martial Arts here. They are all advancing and doing awesome. They offer great discipline and great classes.
I went here for a birthday party and the instructors were very professional. They helped me with full set up and gave me extraordinary service. I recommend Tonchu Vinnings for birthday party or martial arts lessons. Master Woodson and master Chun are the best!
