An absolute top favourite for me! This place is a treasure trove of 2nd hand books, and is stacked floor to ceiling with interesting picks of all sorts. If you dine here they let you take any 3 books (per person) for your choice for free! I love to come in here, order lunch, get a good book and spend hours just lounging about. What adds to the charm are the dining tables with a view of their backyard - they have a bird feed which gets tons of variety of birds (cardinals, finches). Overall a perfect hangout for a quite weekend.

Are you looking for a place where you can pick a book from the shelf and read it over a cup of coffee for hours? Or a place where you can sit by the window and watch little red, yellow, black and blue birds fly in to get their grubs from a bird feeder in a quaint backyard patch? Or a diner from the 80’s that’s been featured in countless publications and has a historic charm to it?
Well, travelers has it all. And to top it all, they let you take home 3 books of your choice, should you dine with them. The prices are actually super reasonable, and so this really ends up being a deal you can’t refuse.

Has been a staple of Massachussets trips since my childhood so now it almost feels like going to a great aunts house for lunch or supper. All the New England comfort food classics done right. I went for the fried shrimp platter on a recent trip and was very pleased. Not overly salty and fried to crisp perfection without overcooking the shrimp to the point of rubber. Lots of drinks come with free refills including herbal tea, which makes for a perfect compliment to sitting by their lovely window overlooking a very well tended back yard and well visited bird feeder (peak season it's almost as busy as the pike! 😉😋)

The staff is very nice, and remembers me even though I've only been going there a few times a year, when traveling up that way. The specials are good, and we've had a good time with a large group, sharing appetizers and then having entrees and even dessert. If they have the waffle sundae, it's great- the little sugar crystals crunch satisfyingly. The burgers are tasty as well. Added bonus- you can choose three free books from the upstairs shelves when you get a meal! Downstairs there are even more books you can buy. This is a great place to stop.

Very cozy place. An interesting stop for your road trip. The place is antique and quite famous. The food is good, but the atmosphere is the most cool thing about it, and the staff is kind. Oh, after you eat, you can get free books to you. Really different experience, I love it :).
