The new building is amazing. I have been going to Tropical Foods for over 40 years. There store used to be compact and it was hard to maneuver two carts passing each other. I came to Boston to visit my mom and I was floored with the improvements.
Love this variety of imported hard to find foods. I go there once a month to pick up my favorite specialty foods. The only issue I have is they are so busy no on ever answers incoming calls, a majority of the the employees who stock shelves aren't English speaking or familiar with inventory items. But I will continue to shop for my favorite foods.
This place is way overpriced. It's like they're ripping off the community. When they were in the old building prices were competitive, but decent. As soon as they got the shiny new building, prices skyrocketed. $6.19 for a 24 pk of Poland Springs water when most grocery stores charge $3-4.
The store is clean, but the meat items aren't always the freshest. You need to double check the dates on each package. Other than that, great variety of food items. Staff are very helpful and bilingual, which is helpful.
I would say 80% of the items are pricer than any other regular grocery storesincluding Asian supermarkets. The other 20% have decent prices for more “authentic” items. Don’t buy anything you could find in grocery stores or Asian markets, over priced.
Kibenash was very rude, lacks basic hygiene and customer service etiquette. This was my first time shopping here, and I'm appalled at how a simple instruction escalated to a conflict. I politely asked my cashier Kibenash not to dump my vegetables bare on her station. She explained they had to be in separate bags, so I brought out bags and first picked all she dumped. Before I reached for another bag, she picked up the bag I filled and dumped them out again. She did this twice until I got stern and asked for a manager. It was only then she reached out to the rolls by her station to pack my products with more hygiene. Even then she angrily threw my product accross. I have never experienced anything like this going to a grocery store and the business would be smarter to properly address workers like Kibenash or rid them if they cannot improve at basic customer service.
Great product mix and staff is very friendly. If you’re a hot sauce collector, this place is a must! Make sure to look down every aisle - hot sauces are sorted by place of origin.
They have the hard to find items of food from Nigeria and some other countries that I love to shop for. Wish there was one closer to my location for my city which is over an hour away from their location.
This place is truly a hidden Gem!!!! Best supper-market in the area, hands down!!! They literally have everything you could possibly imagine and more. I’ve never been to a supermarket with THIS much variety of food. Everything is super fresh and the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. I will never need to go anywhere else, I will most definitely be back!!!
Great little Latin American store. The customer service is good and the prices are great.
