Miserable rude receptionist who somehow has not been fired yet. She makes it incredibly hard to schedule an appointment, hangs up on you without saying bye, avoids eye contact, scoffs in your face. The fact that Dr Laakso keeps her around says a lot about her too… the Dr on the other hand barely sees you for two minutes and simply does not care about you. Unprofessional practice
She diagnosed me with being bipolar and medicated me as such for four years. According to every other doctor I have spoken to, I am not bipolar. She did not cure me, she misdiagnosed me and never looked back. Wasted four years of my life on incorrect medication.
Was a patient of Dr. Laakso’s, on and off, for almost twenty years, and I have to say she did help me over the years. But I recently informed her nicely that I was too physically ill to travel into the city to see her and would be forced to find another physician that was closer to my home. Her practice owed me money from a billing error theirs, and I let her receptionist know and requested that they forward my medical records. First, the receptionist, with an attitude, denied they owed me anything, then she said they would look into it, but it would be very expensive to forward the records. They never looked into it or got back to me. Dr. Laakso herself never responded to my repeated emails and phone messages, not even to express concern over my physical well-being or to wish me well. I never received my medical records—they essentially held them hostage—and only when I threatened to file a complaint did their billing department contact me five minutes later! and say they would send me a check. I have to conclude that Dr. Laakso is competent but heartless and her staff is both incompetent and heartless.
ABSOLUTLY horrible the secretaries are so unhelpful they make it extremely hard for you to make an appointment and they hang up on you constantly once u finally can make it into her busy schedule she over books 4 clients at a time and makes u wait for an hour for literally a 5 minute session where she hardly looks at you and could care less about ur problems and rushes u out the door immediately the only reason she has clients is because she is one of the few NYC psychiatrists that will actually take insurance. Overall we have a problem with the system if this unprofessional is the only person we can turn to.
Dr. LAAKSO, a psychiatrist, is allowing her receptionist to talk to and HANG UP on patients in an inappropriate and rude manner. Considering her patients have emotional issues this is unacceptable. DR LAAKSO PLEASE GET RID OF YOUR PRESENT RECEPTIONIST. I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW SHE SPEAKS TO PATIENTS AND IN MY CASE, THE WIFE OF A PATIENT.
Terrible experience, she put me on a trial drug no one had ever heard of for my mild/moderate anxiety. This was after she put me on effexor which gave me Game of Thrones-style nightmares without telling me that would happen OR that withdrawing from the drug of course under her supervision would cause "brain zaps" for a week or two. Google "brain zaps" if you're so inclined. Luckily, they subsided. After tapering off effexor is when she prescribed rexulti. This was the third drug I have ever taken for mental health issues, still in my first year of using medicine. She said to ignore/not to be alarmed by the fact that it's mainly prescribed to treat schizophrenia. I had a terrible reaction to this drug. It didn't work and she gave me incorrect directions for tapering off it. This incorrect tapering made my reaction 10x worse and I needed to see a new psychiatrist once a week to walk back the damage. It took about 2-3 months before I felt back to myself. Also, she made mistakes in my chart, big ones, like writing down that I had described symptoms to her like racing thoughts/feeling hyper, while I never had them in my life. When this was calmly pointed out she made a note in my chart note. The next visit she asked me about my racing thoughts/hyper feelings. Oh boy. She also constantly referenced my history of depression which I do not have. She cannot keep correct records clearly and needs to retire. I also got the "go to sleep at 8pm and wake up at 5am" thing--clearly it works for her which is why she starts her days so early. However, it is simply not a sustainable practice for the majority of people. I will say she always was reachable by phone, but I would not trust her with my health/prescriptions again.
I had been dealing with incompetent Drs. for years who prescribed all the wrong medications trying to help my son. I finally found Dr. Laakso. She diagnosed and prescribed medications that finally helped. He is now 41 years old and at last living a happy life. I don't understand some of the poor reviews I've read. Her diagnosis are accurate and straight forward. As a trained Minister I understand the complications of balancing ones medications. It is not an exact science where one size fits all. You must keep going back and explaining your experiences and she WILL get to the perfect balance.
She's great I appreciate thanks
The receptionist is the rudest person I have ever known. She makes you feel not wanting to go there.
I went to this doctor because I need a anxiety medication before I traveled and she never called the pharmacy before my flight ... I called the office many times and nobody called me back ... I went travel without the prescription she was supposed to give me even after I payed her for the visit ... I taught it was very disrespectful and she did not care about my condition at all she should not be a doctor who treats people mental wellness
