Our store had its beginnings in the 1920’s, as “Stiles Feed Store”. It was operated out of a shed next to the current location, and served as a farm outlet and hardware store. The present building was erected in 1946 on the adjacent property and it housed the feed store as well as “Uncle Luke’s Print Shop”. Part of the new building was rented to a printer named Luke Pearson. The printing machinery was so heavy, that it left marks in the cement floor. These are visible to this day. When the printer retired, the entire building became a feed store, retaining the name “Uncle Luke’s”. The feed business flourished and continued to serve the local community. In the earlier years of the twentieth century, people were helpful, friendly, and supportive of one another; an agricultural economy required them to have intertwined and interdependent lives. As time passed, Troy evolved from a rural area to a city based on commercial and high technology businesses. Uncle Luke’s Feed Store products and services have kept pace with the march of progress – yet, the store retains the friendly, honest, and helpful atmosphere from an era that has passed. The feed supplies are still stocked, but, today we also carry supplies for the new “green economies” of Troy – gardening and wild bird feed, to name a few. We pride ourselves on our product line. If you do not see what you need, just ask us–chances are we do have it or can obtain it for you. Time has changed our community and the way people live, but our rural feed store atmosphere remains.
