Perfect place for people who might not know a lot about cars and don’t want to be taken advantage of. I went there for the 3 years that I lived nearby, and they were always great. They could get me in last minute and were always super fast. The people are willing to educate you on what’s going on and they don’t try to trick you into spending more money. If I still lived nearby, I would still be going here.
This rating is purely based how ridiculously perfect their Pit Hound Coffee is and how perfect the $2 price mark is. Thanks for the great drugs and friendly vibes. PS I'm not a fan of cars and don't pay attention to that side of this place.
I passed through Minneapolis for a meeting downtown in the middle of a long road trip. A day or two before, my brakes started making noise and needed a semi-urgent repair. I knew I wouldn't be able to drive 1,000 miles home on those brakes and wait for the mechanic appointment I had already scheduled for some other things next week. But I also needed to start heading back east after the meeting. The staff was friendly and were able to finish the repair around the time I ended my meeting. Thank you for fitting me in on the same day I called.
This place literally tried to scam me!!! I went in for an easy fix and he gave me an estimate for $4000. I am a young female college student and this car shop tried to take advantage of that and me. I brought to my hometown shop and it was fixed for $600. Avoid this place.Service: A/C installation & repair
Total scam. Beware. Intimidating and condescending staff interaction. This shop is set up to exploit young college students with little car knowledge into giving them way too much money for unnecessary service. I went in for an oil change, and usually there’s a little sales pitch about other work they can do on your car. Instead I received a call from DAN who said my car was unsafe to drive because my tire tread was too low and the car “stalled” according to him. DAN threatened to cancel my service unless I paid him 100$ for a full inspection and bought tires from him. DAN was very condescending, obviously trying to make an extra buck, and did not apologize or help me out in any way when I refused to pay for extra service. Never coming back and neither should you. Not even worth the $40 oil change.
My kids live near here as students at UofM. They are the closest repair place; so they ended up having them look at a problem. This repair shop tried to bully them into getting unnecessary work immediately and warned them not to drive back home because the car wasn’t safe. Fortunately they came home, and the actually necessary repair was literally hundreds of dollars less than the unnecessary one quoted. And the car had been perfectly safe to drive!
Tldr: Both my girlfriend and I have taken vehicles here. DON’T. They’re just trying to scam you. My girlfriend brought in her car because it was making grinding noises and shaking during operation. They charged her $50 for a “safety inspection,” which lasted all of 5 minutes because they said they were “too busy” to do a complete test drive yet somehow it still cost the same, go figure. They then tried to convince her that her brakes were failing and dangerous, and that she’d be putting herself at risk by leaving their shop. She left anyway, bought new calipers elsewhere, drove her car to her grandfather’s, and they lifted it up to repair it. The thing is, they didn’t need to - the brakes were in great condition and were clearly not in need of replacing, let alone dangerous. I also tried to get a quote on a single repair that I didn’t have the space or tools to do myself, the pressure line for my power steering. They refused to quote the service unless I allowed them to do one of those $50 “inspections” because “there could be other stuff going on” despite the fact I never told them any symptoms, only that I already knew that this specific part was busted and that I needed it replaced. He even went so far to claim that other shops were the same way. Which I knew to be blatantly false, since they were actually the fourth shop I had called in that one sitting, and were the only ones to push that kind of thing on me. The head guy there in particular is extremely condescending and tries to bully you into making decisions. And honestly, this isn’t even all of it. That isn’t to mention the ridiculous pricing on the quote for repairs, charging an excessive amount for even simple things like replacing bulbs. To me, it seems like they’re just out to make a quick buck off of college students that don’t know any better. If I could give zero stars I would.Service: Vehicle safety inspection
I agree with the other 1 star reviews. This shop will try to bully you into paying too much. Even for simple things like oil change, they will try to take advantage of you. Beware. You literally can go anywhere else. Lots of other great auto repair shops
