I have three children, and all attend or have attended this center. My oldest attends the summer camp they offer, which gives the children lots of room for creative exploration--including making forts from cardboard boxes. My middle son attended since birth until now, at age 6--he now attends their before and after kindergarten program. He enjoys playing on the playground and the animals in the classrooms. My youngest child has also attended since birth and and loves playing dress up. The program is very child-centered and respectful to children and their families. I've always enjoyed the nature of the center, which is very much like a large extended family. I simply cannot say enough good things about the center and I've referred a number of friends there.
My husband and I did a lot of research when looking for a child care facility before our son was born. As I work at UNLV, we specifically looked at all the center's in the area, and from the first moment I felt like the UUMCDC was the BEST place for our son - and now also our daughter. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and absolutely wonderful with children. There is very little staff-turnover, which means both you and more importantly your child, feels safe and secure going to the center and knowing who their teachers will be. They focus on learning through play and hands-on activities, they encourage their imagination, develop positive social skills, and really love and support the children. From infant age on up the kids are engaged, communicated with, interacted with and made to feel safe and special. I could not say one bad thing about my family's experiences with the Child Development Center. Oh, did I mention that the center follows the Color Me Healthy program? Snack time is a variety of food that is nutritious, well-rounded in what is served, and the kids love it! It makes me so happy to know that the healthy eating habits we teach at home are being reinforced when my kids are at the center. My son thinks fresh red peppers are "delicious," and loves to chomp his way through "trees" AKA broccoli! Part of that is us at home, but a big part is his teachers and the initiatives driven by the center director - Amy who is amazing and so wonderful. Being a working mom, it relieved me to find a place that took such good care of my kids, after all, they are with these people 7-8 hours a day. If you are looking for a place that will engage your kids, take care of them, let them get messy and be kids, all while learning and developing, then this is the place for you! P.S. Did I mention how affordable it is? But if the price went up tomorrow I would still pay it, it is worth every penny!
My daughter has been going to the Child Development Center for 3 years now. I would NEVER think about going anywhere else. Staff has become family- as matter of fact when I recently had back surgery my daughter stayed with her teacher, FOR FOUR DAYS- over the weekend!! She has had the same primary teacher since she was 3 months old. They do what is called "looping" - which is when you child basically takes their teacher with them as they move up through the classes. My daughter has had many of the same friends since she was 3 months old also. Kids don't leave much. Usually daycares are fairly transient- in both kids and teachers. I have seen minimal turnover in the staff which speaks volumes and very little in the children also. As matter of fact most kids only leave for kindergarten or if the family is moving out of state! I absolutely love everyone there and couldn't be happier with my daughters care.
The CDC has been a wonderful experience for my daughter. We recently moved to Las Vegas and here she found home. She gets to learn through experience, field trips, and creativity. All the teachers and staff are warm, caring, and are a big family. I appreciate the sandy and down-to-earth playground at CDC, and when I pick her up, she usually asks if she could stay longer!
The staff and services at UUMCDC are top notch. My wife and I teach at UNLV and our three kids have been going there for almost three years. It is THE MOST warm, inviting, and down-to-earth "community environment" we have encountered since moving to Las Vegas. Everyone knows everyone else and most of the staff have been there a long time, which is terribly important to the children's sense of security. It is also safe and secure with tons of free parking in the back. If you are new to Las Vegas and searching for a daycare or unhappy with your present situation, give Amy the director a call. You will not be disappointed.
I have been very impressed by the unity of this child care center. The teachers work well together. The children are happy and the parents are happy when I see them dropping off the children and picking them up. I would encourage friends and strangers to take their children here to be cared for.
