The ambience of this deli feels so cozy like a grandma's house. The staff is nice and so sweet. I have never been in a German food establishment before so I didn't know what to expect but I was NOT disappointed. My sandwich was great. It was so much bigger than I expected! It was also very fresh. I will definitely come back and try another item on their menu.
I was really pleasantly surprised with the quality of the bratwurst. The hot potato salad reminded me of a high quality knish from my childhood and was really comforting on a chilly day and the sauerkraut was a really nice combination of sweet and sour - I could totally see it being amazing on a Reuben. I was so happy I went back the same day and got a raspberry pastry and a peach pastry. Both of them were flaky, buttery, good balance of sweetness, delicious too.
2022 is the year of trying places I always wondered about. This deli did not disappoint. Kristine Konefat and her partner were very hospitable and the food is fantastic. My friend and I ordered 2 specials and a sandwich to try things. Sauerbraten, Brunsweiger, Spetzle, cabbage rolls, warm potato salad, macaroni salad, a pickle and some pastries. All of it was so delicious. Our favorite was a tie between the Sauerbraten and Spetzle. Highly recommend for all locals.
If I could give 10 stars .. I would… just the love and care that went into putting my order together was just amazing to watch.. the sandwiches were just the absolute best!
First time eating here, I ordered a lunch special for $10.25 that came with a fresh & delicious Pastrami sandwich, a juicy pickle, German style potato salad, and a can of cold soda. The owner was friendly and she added a sugar cookie for dessert which was very nice of her… I recommend this family oriented small business to try instead of those gross fast food chains.
I walked in not knowing what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. The lady, and gentleman were both pleasant, and helpful. It's been over 30 years since I was stationed in Bad Kreuznach Germany, and I found many products that I had become accustomed to enjoying in my three years there. The pastries I purchased were of excellent quality, and who could pass up Hefe Weissbier from the oldest brewery in the world! I shall be returning to this deli, and I can see an apple strudel in my future!
We had amazing sandwiches, including one of the most delicious Ruben sandwiches we have ever had with handmade pickle on the side. And we bought Danish cookies, and apple turnovers that were authentic and honestly simply fantastic. Great experience! An older couple own and run this place, so it takes a bit to get your sandwiches, but it is well worth the wait.
I got this Reuben sandwich with German potato salad.. And omg it was a taste of heaven!!! Best damn sandwiches I had in years!!! I will drive an hour just for their delish eats!! Also their deserts are to die for!!!
TL;DR: Wanted to love this place, but didn't. Giving it a meh+ Did a mini-roadtrip to try this place after it did several laps in my "want to go" list. It's in a nondescript strip mall location, which is fine with me, many great places are. Inside, it's reminiscent of a few other European delis like Globe Deli in Costa Mesa and Mattern in Orange. The selection of groceries and other goods was on the slimmer side here compared to a bigger place like the German Deli at Old World in Huntington Beach. I'm all about supporting small businesses, and this one looks like it's owned and operated by a family, I was helped by a woman who very well could be an owner. Ordered a trio of sandwiches and a side of order of the house potato salad to go everything is to go right now, there is no inside dining. The sandwiches, priced around $7-8, are firmly on the less expensive side of things compared to the other places I've mentioned, where the sandwiches are $10-12. Got everything home and shared it with the family. The sandwiches were good, if not memorable. The portions were on the smaller side compared to the competition, but admittedly cheaper. None of us loved the potato salad, although it was better than some I've had I generally don't care for the heavy mayonnaise-based salads. It just didn't have the tang I like, instead being fairly plain except for pepper. All told, I likely won't make the drive again. I would choose the Continental Delicatessen in La Habra, Mattern Sausage & Deli in Orange, or the German Deli at Old World in Huntington Beach before coming back. All of those are priced higher, but offer a larger selection, a better vibe, and a more enjoyable meal.
Great food, great service! Liverwurst is the best!! It's worth the wait. The place always has a line.
