Actual care/rehab is good -- BILLING/admin. is so bad as to be "suspicious" -- we were told we needed a credit card to hold a room when the we first came from the hospital / we did not understand at all that this meant they charge immediately WITHOUT documentation and without notice and continue to do so -- until the patient "notices" it !?!? -- in our case, even after patient left facility. We were left o unravel all charges -- There is NO WAY to speak with supervisors nurses, admin, etc. by phone. It took SIX days for me to "find out" which nurse was in charge of my mother, what the care plan was, test results, etc. If you have supplemental to pick up extras beyond Medicare it will be VERY HARD to get clear documentation from them to submit. The persistence needed to do so was, again, so bad, as to be "suspicious."
Just finishing up a 2 week stay here. Great people, great facility The 11th floor people are very good. The PTs and OTs are outstanding. Really know how to get the best from the patients. LUZIA my OT was as cheerful and upbeat as she is competent. I made progress very quickly with her. Hisani my PT really got me moving quickly. MaryGrace my speech therapist was really helpful and cheerful. The nursing staff are on top of everything The support staff, CNAs who help with everything from hygiene to ice packs are outstanding. Especially Melrose! For institutional food, it is pretty good. Cleanliness is super. It seems like someone is cleaning constantly. If I could improve anything it would be the temperature of the rooms. Way too hot even with A/C on max. If I ever need rehab again I hope not this is where I would hope to be.
Very professional and courteous staff. Very helpful with all needs. Facilities are great, though a little old. Outdoor space a plus. A little more focus on just spending time would be great.
My partner was in there for about 2 months back in 2021. He said that the dietitian and the 2 female physical therepists who worked with him were great. The facility did carry out Covid safety protocols. And there was one head nurse who was really good, he said. However, my partner called me on several occasions because he was upset that they tried to give him the wrong medication. At least one of those times he explained to the person dispensing drugs that he was not the person she was calling him by. She had tried to give him blood pressure medication, but he doesn't take that. In fact,, his blood pressure is usually low. She ran out of the room, and he never saw her again. At least he was aware of the drugs he was supposed to be taking and could advocate for himself. I wonder what happens to UESR&R patients who can't advocate for themselves, and to those who don't speak English and those who are trusting and don't question medical staff.
My mother is in her 90s she came to rehab for a fall the CNAs who clean and bathe the patients are very unprofessional and no compassion and rude , unfortunately this place is under staffed 1 nurse on each floor for 40 patients 3 in each room , and 1 CNA on each floor not enough help to watch patients so when I leave specific instructions since my mother is a fall risk nobody is on the same page I found her on the floor and 4 workers standing in the room had no idea , unfortunately theses workers are not trained to understand patients health conditions to try and prevent accidents, they don't know what is dementia or fainting or anything related to patients conditions which is a huge problem to assist them personally, it's like a cattle ranch line up, my mother had been coughing for 24 hrs and until I got their nobody was aware she had severe symptoms breathing and spitting up fluids, I had to call 911 to get to the nearest hospital where they did xrays and found her lungs where filled with fluids and required 2 introvenus antibiotics and oxygen, had I not gone to the rehab facility she would of developed ammonia or worse if you love your family member don't bring them to theses places it's a death trap! Oh beware theirs little friends running around bedside too
Upper East Side Rehab is a disgrace. It has vermin, rodents, roaches, water bugs in the rooms, and hallways. The NYS DOH knows, and does nothing. UESR passed their latest inspection, despite patient complaints. The long-term floors are called "rat floors" by staff. Most patients are in their 80s,, and have some level of dementia. This place is demoralizing. Aide's CNAs and staff routinely lre to you to shut you up.
Simply stated about my mom rehab program at this center - I have been visited her daily for more than three weeks. The caregivers and staff are wonderful and thoughtful.
Reading these roller coaster reviews makes you wonder. My friend is on the ninth floor. It appears from the reviews that each floor has a different level of professionalism and cleanliness The 9th floor is chaotic and inefficient. My friend has been there for two weeks. His nurse still doesn’t know his name. My reaction towards the staff has not been entirely thoughtful either for that I apologize. But it’s very difficult to maintain levelheadedness when your loved one is in a situation that is lacking dignity and respect. I like to add to this review by stating the physical therapist and vocational therapist and speech therapist have all been excellent
UESR Is A HELL. A PRISON!! LONG-TERM Care Floors HAVE VERMIN: Rats/Mice, Roaches, AND Water Bugs. DON'T BELIEVE The Nice Photos. You'll Be SURROUNDED By Dementia Patients, some Violent!! UESR IS Lack of Care, And CARING. Many Patients Are Left to Deteriorate, ROT, And CRY a lot. Despite, Vermin and Poor Care, they passed their recent NYS inspection on Jan. 23, 2024. Rodents RUN In Rooms, AND Hallways. OFTEN, I hear hitting noises, as Aides try to kill them. On January 23, 2024, between 5 and 5:30 am, separately, 3 rodents came into my room. They ran to my roommate's side. When changing her, the Aide CNA brushed cookie crumbs on the floor. I WATCHED the rodents walking, eating the crumbs. They Have Many Big Roaches here. A large adult was recently on my bed, near my shoulder. I've seen Water Bugs walk into my room from the hallway. Basic Hygiene is USUALLY Ignored. I'm Washed Infrequently. My Hair has NEVER Been Combed, or Brushed, even after many months of being here. It's now late June. Only 10 times this year, have I been helped to Brush My Teeth. Once, only AFTER Complaining to a NYS Inspector. Almost Daily, Supplies Run Out: Sheets, Diapers, And Gowns. Clean Pillow Cases are RARE. Some foods can run short. You'll WEAR Diapers 24 hours a day, EVEN If NOT Incontinent. No bedpans are used. Staffing is OFTEN short. At times, I've been Left In Wet, or Poop Filled, Diapers for 4 hours, Or More. Changing is only ONCE Per Shift. Call Lights, can go Unanswered an Hour, OR More. You NEED Your OWN Phone. On Jan. 31, 2024, by 6 am, I'd waited almost 5 hours to be changed. I'd asked the Aide to change me at 2:15 am, and she left. NO ONE Answered my call light. Twice, I phoned the Nurse's Desk. Both times, someone picked up, didn't talk, AND hung up. When the Aide came back at 6:55 am to shut my call light, she changed me. By then, my bed was soaking wet. NO Sheets Were Available. My Dirty Cover Sheet was Used to replace the wet sheet under me. Food trays are Often put down and left, sometimes out of reach. If you need things set up to feed yourself, you're in trouble. FOOD, AND UTENSILS, Are Handled With BARE Hands. Check the menu on your food tray. Food served is Sometimes Cut Back, OR Missing. Recent Examples: 1 The menu says 2 chicken tenders. The plate has 1 chicken tender. 2 The menu says 6 ravioli. The plate has 3 ravioli. FOODS SOMETIMES Run Short, ARE MISSING, OR Are EXPIRED. Vegetables are Overcooked. "Fresh" Salads are Usually Wilted, SOMETIMES ROTTEN. Soup, OFTEN Watered Down, CONTAINS Few, OR NO, Vegetables. A bowl of soup comes 1/2, to 2/3, full. Only a couple of beans ex. 2 and 1/2 beans in my macaroni and bean soup; ONLY 12 lentils in my lentil soup Is Usual. Aides, and other staff, RARELY wear name tags. Staff is OFTEN rude, AND Ignores questions. One recent evening, I told a Verbally Abusive Aide, I was going to report her. Laughing in my face, she said, "Go ahead, report me. I don't care.". She left, and came back a few minutes later, saying she'd just reported me! People Working Here, BULLY Pressure, And LIE, to patients. One Nurse DEMANDED I hand her my phone, so she "can see what's on it". I refused. Watch Your Stuff. At UESR, they DON'T Respect Personal Property. That same Nurse told me, "This is a nursing home. There IS NO Personal Property Here." Your Things may be Touched, Moved, OR Disappear, WITHOUT your Permission, OR Knowledge. I've experienced it. Your Rights Under The Law Are Disregarded. UNLESS you're aware of them, You Have NO RIGHTS at UESR. Assert your Rights, AND You're Treated Badly. Asserting your Rights INCLUDES Complaining. They'll Send a Psychiatrist. You may be Verbally Abused by Nurses, AND Aides CNAs. Told in a harsh tone, "No one likes you", Or "You're a bad person". I've experienced it. Patients with Severe Physical Disabilities Are WAREHOUSED. Their Rehab Outcomes AREN'T Expected To Be Achieved, OR Taken Seriously. You're LEFT ROTTING In A, Bed. IF YOU DON'T LOVE THEM, Leave Your Loved One At UESR. Better Yet, STAY THE HELL AWAY From UESR!!!,,
The staff on the 11th floor are all great. Very helpful and caring. They encourage my mother in all aspects of her care. She has made great strides in her rehab and has gained strength which is fantastic. She is in good spirits because the staff are friendly and really care about the patients. I also see that it isn’t just patients who have visitors. They are attentive to patients who have no one with them. They always stop in just to check the other patient in the room. The facility is older but it is clean. My mom has been able to sit outside and stop by the cafe in the lobby. It has been a great experience
