Some of these reviews are confusing. I guess people like to complain about trivial things. Yes, Monday is a member's night only. Leaving a bad review because you didn't get an exception to a rule is very Karen. It's posted on their website. The owner doesn't have your typical "customer service" voice or demeanor, but that doesn't make him rude. That being said, I rarely ever even see him, and I've been going regularly for six months. The routes are changed frequently. Their difficulty scale, while not exactly standard, works a lot better than the typical numeric scale, which is highly arbitrary. They also have a weight room, and I frequently use the pull-up bar. They've crammed a lot of routes into a small building, and there are some unique touches they've added. Yeah the parking lot is terrible, but that's how it was when it was a church . I've had to park in the street a few times. Overall I've had a great experience. The routes are challenging, with many different styles, the staff are friendly, and the price is competitive. Update: We had a member route setting night, which was incredibly fun.
Oof. This was one of the worst experiences I’ve had with a front desk worker. My friend and I came for a day pass and rentals. The worker was disrespectful, rude, and generally unhelpful. He was very confusing and did not offer any solutions we are certified belayers at other gyms and this was our first time at Urban Krag. He was inpatient and seemed generally annoyed. My hope is that his day got better because it must have pretty bad when we walked in. We will likely not be returning to this gym because of this interaction. Aside from this interaction, the other workers were very helpful and kind. The gym itself is good, kind of small and the bouldering routes aren’t great. Fair pricing. The atmosphere is fun and encouraging.
Owner was extremely rude. Needs to work on his customer service skills. I am just shocked that he would speak any customer like that. I was in town and stopped by to get a boulder pass. Did not realize Monday night was members only night. The owner rudely grumbled that “No one reads the website”. That is an accurate statement. It’s 2022 people google ‘climbing gym’ and look at the hours on google. People are not going to take the time to read a dissertation on an outdated website. Rules are rules, I get it. The place had maybe 4 people in it so I was shocked when he said there was no flexibility in those rules. Being unnecessarily rude while explaining to rules has prevented my interest in ever spending a dime at this gym.
I almost didn't come because of the bad reviews, but I'm very glad I did, this is a simply fantastic facility and I found the staff and owner very helpful and accomodating.
Taylor was great! Very patient and informative. Thanks for teaching me the basics I was super nervous but feel a ton more comfortable now. Definitely will be back many more times. There is distancing, sanitizers, and masks are required, which everyone did!
The location itself is nice. Beautiful old church converted into a nice climbing area. The staff was always friendly and helpful to me as well. I genuinely used to love coming to this gym. However, the owner is awful to deal with. If you go out of your way to be nice to him, he's great to be around, but if you challenge him he will make the environment so hostile that you'll cancel your membership. At least, that is what happened to me. So, I would not recommend, but if you can handle that type of personality, I would say it is a great place to climb.
Was in town visiting family for the holidays and decided I wanted to keep up my climbing while away from my usual gym. We showed up on a Monday night, after 8PM, to do some bouldering and was told it was members night and the only way we could climb was if we bought a month membership. It seemed rather empty the parking lot wasn't even half full so disappointed that we couldn't climb and that they didn't seem to want to work with us for a day pass for bouldering. Giving a 1 star for lack luster customer experience. Oh and they had a mask required sign to enter but when we walked in the guy working the desk was definitely not wearing a mask.
A really cool spot to climb. Lots of routes for every level of climber. plenty of top rope routes as well. Everyone is super friendly don't be scared to ask for a belay. Day passes are pricey, but it's worth it for a couple hours of good climbing.
The parking lot is small and the lines are not well marked. Once I went inside I was told that Mondays are for members only, when I got there they had three cars parked two seemed to be for employees and the last to a customer who was leaving, and they didn't seem to want to accommodate us with the lack of customers. They told me I could stay if I purchased a membership but I told them that wasn't possible because I was visiting from out of town. But that didn't seem to change there minds on making an exception. Later I looked to see how easy it would have been to find out about this members only day and it was located in the members benefits. If I were running this place I would think you would want to be more clear about the hours so you don't end up souring new comers experiences.
