It's never pleasant calling into this office. Ken is a problem. One incident stands out. I'm on a first name basis with my various physicians. That's not okay with Ken. Me: "I'd like to make an appointment to see Mike." Ken: "It's Dr. West!" He literally snapped at me. Mike, too, seems to think that he should be called Doctor. Not gonna happen. Almost everyone I work with has a Ph.D. including me. No one insists on these silly and pretentious titles anymore, except the occasional "Doctor."
Dr. West has been a great and consistent doctor for me for 3 years. His office manager, Ken, is very efficient and helpful. I've had the easiest time with refills and handling insurance through Ken and Dr. West's office compared to any other doctor I've had. They do a fantastic job. I liked being able to get my blood drawn at the office, but now that I live farther away, it's actually nice to use LabCorp. Dr. West is not the most emotionally expressive doctor, but that's also not what I pay him to be. I need someone who knows about diabetes and can help me manage it well long-term. He always answers my questions or gets answers to my questions, even if he doesn't look animated or interested when I ask.
Dr. West is all about money! Greedy, inhumane robot who sees his patients as hens egging gold.. when he prescribes any medicine or treatment he does not care whether or not it suits the patient’s body, neither he cares what side effects or consequences it may cause! Instead he proscribes what pays him higher commission! Dr. West made us take Iodine uptake that was not necessary at all for our case! Only because he gets a very high percentage of it! Even the technicians themselves were shocked that we had to go through this experience! FYI Iodine uptake is so dangerous that whoever takes it are not allowed near their kids for days! He does not even care to respond to any of these negative reviews, offer an apology or even justify! It is so sad and frustrating! that doctors nowadays are like car salespeople; they are in a crazy race about making more money even at the expense of their patients’ bodies!
While I'd appreciate things like appointment reminders and automatically being sent a copy of my bill after appointments I tend to have to ask, or call when I have my appointment scheduled, I do like that the appointments are efficient with Dr. West and I'm typically hearing back from someone quickly. Getting blood drawn with LabCorp is very easy, and the virtual appointments are easy to schedule around my day.
Dr. West's clinic has always been excellent for me. So interesting that that there are 1 star ratings. I think it is a matter of personal style. They are efficient, knowledgeable, fast to refill or to follow up. Helpful with good information. Dr. West not only looks at a patient's "numbers" he asks how they feel and works to make sure that he handles medication in a way that not only optimizes lab returns but how a patient is actually functioning. Ideal doctor if you want skill in managing Hashimoto's disease. I would take the 1 star ratings with a grain of salt. Endocrinology patients can sometimes be sensitive due to their medical condition. Thyroid conditions can impact emotions at times. I have always been professional with them and they have with me. Happy patient for 7 years or so.
Dr. West is a good endocrinologist who knows his stuff. I saw him for 6 years before I moved. Ken his office manager is very efficient and competent. I've never had a problem with them and always got refills done right away which is more than I can say for a lot of offices. They do an excellent job of notifying you of upcoming appointments so you don't forget and if you live in DC, the location is convenient.
Didn't help, made me go to in person apt and I felt rushed. Drove 1hr from MD to be seen in a rush for 5 min. Will go elsewhere.
Dr. West seems to be a quality doctor, but the practice has some shady financial practices. I'm not sure what others' experiences are, but I never received any calls or reminders about my appointment no calendar invite, and was charged expensive late fees for missing an appointment that I never even had on my calendar. I'm confident that other quality endocrinologists exist with more transparent business practices, and hence would recommend you look elsewhere.
I have had a couple visits with Dr. West. He's competent and I felt I was getting good care. His front desk person, Ken, who runs the practice has typically been kind of curt but responsive. I went for my lab work in advance of my follow up scheduled a few days out to find the office vacant with no notice of relocation. I never was notified of the move. I found someone from another office suite who informed me they moved but did not know where. I called the office to get a recording with the new address. Because the office was to close soon I Ubered over and called to alert the office to my situation. Ken was not sympathetic at all. He informed me I was emailed about the move which I was not and that the office was closing at 4:30 5 minutes from then. I dashed up to the new office with a couple minutes to spare. The lab tech was ready to take me in. I interacted with Ken about the situation to which he stated, "I am not going to apologize." When I commented that this was poor customer service he withdrew the lab request from the tech and told me I would have to go elsewhere. I have written to Dr. West and the DC Board. Needless to say this is not my recommended endo office in DC.
The best Dr ever love Dr west and his staff. Ken is wonderful I just think some people don't like being told no. He is very professional and does a great job I'm Sitting here in the office watching him work and he is very nice to everyone. This is a busy office they don't make you wait for an hour when you get here for your appointment like most other doctor offices.
