"The human spirit yearns for goodness as the eye longs for beauty." ~ Felix Adler
If you are visiting with us, welcome! We hope you will enjoy your time with us and join us for coffee hour immediately after this morning’s platform. The Washington Ethical Society (WES) is a humanistic congregation that affirms the worth of every person.
Our community of 400 children, youth, and adults was established in 1944. Our Society is a member of the American Ethical Union (www.aeu.org) and the Unitarian Universalist Association (www.uua.org). The Ethical Culture movement was founded in 1876 by Felix Adler as a religion based on ethical living; Unitarian Universalism draws on roots in the radical reformation, but has expanded to include a rich diversity of theological beliefs. Both Ethical Culture and Unitarian Universalism affirm the inherent worth of each person and the interdependent and interconnected web of life.
Our Sunday school program prepares our children to live in an increasingly complex society. We have a staffed nursery. Classes for our younger children (pre-K through 8th grade) are held on Sunday mornings. WES also has an active Teen Group for our older teens, and a Coming of Age program for younger teens and their parents.
Our monthly newsletter describes the many activities of our society. WES also has a weekly email announcement of activities (send your name and email address to the WES office at [email protected]). To learn more about WES and Ethical Culture, please visit our website at ethicalsociety.org.
