Story

Westport House bridges the gap between inpatient treatment and long-term sobriety. We have pioneered a two phased “step-down” model of sober living designed to support young men as they internalize the behaviors that ensure successful assimilation into a world without drugs and alcohol.

This dynamic and methodical approach leads young men toward a life that can exceed their expectations and a peer community that fiercely supports their efforts.

"Sober living for men at Westport House is a supportive residential community designed to help individuals navigate early sobriety, identifying challenges and sharing successes — while successfully reintegrating into the workplace, family, and other commitments. We offer a strong community of residents, alumni, and staff, high engagement with residents, and a high staff-to-resident ratio so that residents feel comfortable, safe, and supported during their processes of recovery. Westport House staff provide the guidance, expertise, and understanding for residents to build a rich and meaningful life of sobriety."

Danielle Meldon is the program director at this facility, and I have a hard time putting into words the amount that she has done for my family and I over these last two years. It was a hard struggle, that took patience and determination on all ends. Danielle repaired my family slowly, and helped me to see that the way I had been behaving my whole life wasn’t normal nor was it okay. She taught me how to live again, as a sober woman in recovery. I am forever grateful for what she has helped me accomplish and anywhere that she works is somewhere I highly recommend! I’ve been to many treatment centers over the years, particularly in CT, and I haven’t met anyone that can come close to what she does. Truly a blessing to have worked with her.
I went to Westport House in 2017 shortly after completing 28 days of inpatient treatment in CT. After inpatient I ended up going home and struggled with my continued sobriety. My family and I found Westport House and we knew I needed to do something different if I was going to continue my recovery process. When landing at Westport House I was in a new place with complete strangers, this was my first time doing any type of extended care or sober living and I did not know what to expect. Over the next year the people I met and the staff overseeing my process allowed me to find a recovery lifestyle that worked for me all while helping me get back into real world situations when the timing was right. The connections I made at Westport House made big difference in my recovery process, combined with finding a 12 step fellowship that worked for me has allowed me to stay sober for over a year and a half. The Westport House taught me how to deal with my emotions, practice healthy coping skills and rebuild the relationships that had been damaged. I was incapable of building new healthy relationships and the staff showed me how to not only build new ones but play an active role in those relationships. During the process I learned how to be more independent, including managing my own money and learning how to manage my time while focusing on recovery school and work. For me I would have never gotten to where I am today without the program Westport House offers.
i had the pleasure of working with Danielle Meldon over the last year. She has gotten me through a relapse which was an extremely hard time for me. Danielle assured me that this was just a bump in the road of sobriety and that i would be okay. If it weren’t for places like this and people like her, addicts like myself would never have made it this far. I am now eight months clean, and I owe a lot of my progress to Danielle Meldon.
A wonderful program that is highly needed! With the critical need of recovery and rehabilitation in today’s world, this program is a rare gem!
