Jessica and another woman were the the only people on the floor. They were honest and upfront about the wait, the staffing, and the kitchen. The food was incredible. It was a reasonable time to wait for food that good. The cooks even came out to chat with us as they were closing down. Prices were reasonable. Everyone was so kind. We were so impressed. It was the perfect end of summer dinner. Countless stars for these people!
My boyfriend and I came here for New Year’s Eve dinner, and it was delicious. Our server was great, she was kind and knowledgable, and the food was amazing. A little pricey for a smaller portion, but I definitely recommend!Dine in: Yes
This is the WORST restaurant I have eaten at in Virginia Beach. We went there for Father's Day, and all of our meals were either very overdone the veal or underdone the Salmon. The pasta was flavorless, and dripping with whatever it was, but it was not a sauce I am familiar with. Our waitress was kind, but somewhat inattentive, leaving used plates on the table, that was already small, and crowded. The wine was overpriced and I love a good Cabernet. so I didn't have any. I had ordered the Veal Saltimbocca, and it came so overdone my non-serrated knife could not cut through it, At first, they politely offered to refund me for the Veal dish, and I should have just said yes. Instead, the manager said they would make me a new plate. We took it home. I had it for dinner tonight, thoroughly warmed up in a saucepan, and tried cutting it with a serrated knife.. Now it was even more difficult to cut, and they first bite was so chewy I thought it was very fatty veal. To my great surprise, I opened it up, AND THE VEAL WAS ALMOST RAW.. This time they had undercooked it terribly, being in too much of a hurry. I am bringing it back to the restaurant as proof of it's inedibleness and expect a full refund for it. I can't believe they charged $29 for this terrible dish. Even my son, who was taking me out for Father's day, said his veal was overcooked too... Now to the staff... They apparently had a new cook, who was being trained at the same time he was cooking for customers. I attribute the first meals to him. The owner should have had him cook three meals for him personally before even hiring him. The other cook was much nicer, and personable, and it was he who cooked the second helping of the Saltimbocca. Still, he must have been in too much of a hurry, with other customers waiting. Lastly, no waitress should be allowed to wear short shorts that barely cover her derriere and serve meals in what I presumed was supposed to be a "classy" restaurant. There was also a waiter maybe a busboy? that appeared to have not washed his uniform in over a week. He needs a new one that is all black. He also needs to not wear a "biker" wallet chain when working in a restaurant.. very uncouth. I only gave this review 1 star because there are no "ZERO" stars. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT EAT HERE. You WILL be disappointed. I have NO idea how it was rated at 4.6/5. 6/23/22 I went back this evening to return the meal I could not eat, and the manager and head chef was truly apologetic,, and promptly refunded us for the meal. This I appreciated. Antonio was very nice, and I believe a good man, and well represents this establishment. On the other hand, the young lady made a point of coming up to me and said I had offended her in my earlier comments, because I had "disrespected her". I had gone up to her later to apologize, but she just turned her back on me and repeated that I had disrespected her, and that she nothing else to say to me. At that point, I did not apologize, and reminded her that as an employee she represented the place she worked at.. and that is not how you talk to customers. I DID notice she was now wearing long pants. Due to what I felt was a sincere desire to make it right to me and my family, Antonio said he personally wanted my business, and if I came back he would make sure we were happy and satisfied with his product. Towards that end, I will do so, and will try them again. And if he makes good, I will also give a positive review. Randall Baker
Ottimo Cibo! Very good food! The chicken marsala was absolutely delicious..the sauce was the best I've ever tasted! The shrimp scampi was fresh and very light. The Moscato was perfect...the caesar salad and bruschetta were pretty good...served beautifully. The customer service was exceptional and really made the whole meal wonderful. The chef introduced himself as well and came and spoke to everyone! Exceptional service!
This is a very friendly restaurant with very good food. The atmosphere is great and they even have a patio for summer evenings. This staff is very friendly and helpful. We met the chef and he is very friendly and informative about his dishes. The food is just wonderful, especially if you have the muscles! I'd recommend this restaurant if you are in the Virginia Beach area!
Just mediocre. When I was there with friends on cold day, there's no heat in the place. They said "no carbonara, no soup"... It's a cold winter day and NO soup? They removed "vongole" from their menu. No carbonara.... I ordered pasta with shrimp. I wondered where they got the shrimps from. Kroger's? It said Local shrimps. I gave three stars because one of us said liked her dish. But for me, there is nothing excited about and I will not return.
My family and I went for hubby's birthday dinner. Jessica was wonderful, all the dishes were delish! Compliments to the chefs! We'll definitely be going back!
Ambiance was great. Service was great and on point with knowledge of the dishes. Perhaps it was because we showed up right as the restaurant opened, but we felt chilly, even sitting next to the kitchen. Our food was good but we felt that given the emphasis on the ingredients being of a higher quality, that the food would reflect that more. The food tasted as the dishes described, but not in an exceptional way. We haven't given up on When in Rome, perhaps an off night; either for them or us.
Quaint restaurant with amazing tasting food, and lovely atmosphere. Our server Andrea was superb! And the Executive Chef went around every table greeting guests, which was a genuine gesture as well: my husband and I shared the roasted duck pictured and the avocado salad! Will try again on special occasion.
I write a few months after I came last time, and this time I must be further amazed by the quality, courtesy, and high professionalism of the manager. First of all, thank you Marco the owner and chef. marco organized me a special business dinner for a dozen colleagues whom I had guaranteed the restaurant "When In Rome" was an authentic Italian restaurant. The event went far beyond the best possibilities: fresh food, chef preparation you will see in the photos, Italian delicacies, delicate and intense flavors, excellent selected wine and a lot of courtesy for the staff of my office 90% American. All my colleagues were amazed, there was nothing that was not welcome, even the bread homemade left in all a memory of uniqueness. What to say: thanks again Marco!
