The only place I could find in NYC to help address an injured bird pigeon, specifically. I'm extremely grateful as the majority of vet hospitals and clinics, even emergency clinics, only seem to treat cats and dogs. I visited several before finding Wild Bird Fund. Skip the search and come straight here for injured birds. There's an avian hospital across the street for domesticated birds. Sincerely, thank you for all that you do. Send a donation if you can spare a few bucks; Wild Bird Fund's efforts are unrecognized and underrated.
I have brought injured birds here in the past, and was very touched by the level of kindness and compassion put into caring for each creature. If you want to check in on a patient you have brought in, there is an email you can follow up with after 5 days. I have chosen this service each time, and the responses have always been detailed and considerate. The folks at WBF will do everything they can to ensure that each bird gets a fighting chance, and in the cases when euthanasia is the only ethical option, it is a choice that they clearly make with much sensitivity and deliberation. I have even recently begun volunteering at WBF. Everyone staff and volunteers alike is wonderful and more than happy to share their knowledge and love for animals. I had no prior experience working with birds before volunteering, and have already learned so much hands on. I genuinely look forward to each volunteer shift, and have found it to be an intensely rewarding experience. There is no better place in NYC to trust to look after our avian friends.
Doing a great job of raising awareness and helping wild birds and other creatures. I try to visit them at open houses and donate when possible. Follow them on Insta see some of their ‘clientele’!
I dropped an injured fledgling off, a "Morning Dove". A woman sitting out front took the little birdie from my grasp and said not to worry. She also said that they're a non for profit organization and have saved many birds. Needless to say that i was totally put to ease and happy that the little birdie was in good hands. I was then told to fill out some short forms and was given a reference number to get period updates on its progress. What a good service and continue doing what you do!
I started volunteering here. It's been a great experience so far. I've met a duck, a seagull, grackles and a ton of pigeons. If you're looking for a chance to help some birds in need or love animals or are thinking about working as a vet/vet tech, give this place a chance. They do a lot of good work. Never thought I'd get used to the sights and sounds here but it's oddly soothing.
Wild bird rescue facility that is one of NYC's most important resources -- this is an amazing group of dedicated wildlife experts and volunteers who are literally lifesavers for birds in need. I have brought pigeons and sparrows here, and am always impressed by their knowledge and compassion. They do not charge anything, so please donate to WBF if you can -- they do such terrific work!
These guys are fantastic. I found a sick baby robin in Prospect Park and they told me to bring it in despite being close to their closing time. And I still had to get the robin and get on the subway. They stayed open for me. Truly caring people in an often uncaring NYC.
This place is the best! My daughter and her fiancee always find baby birds and we drop them off here! They are amazing!
Any non profit that helps animals for me is heaven. I found a little Baltimore Oriole girl that fell off her nest. Took care of her for a week and I was getting too attached had to bring her to a trusted place and this is it. Their unconditional love and willingness to save & rehab wildlife animals is amazing. My baby girl is not only healthy but also in good hands. Now I have to let go.
This place is wonderful. They take in injured birds mostly pigeons and rehabilitate them. Having a place like this in NYC is a blessing, especially for the birds who otherwise would not survive. They answered questions regarding a couple of pigeons who had babies on our terrace. As of now, one of the babies who were born on our terrace found a mate. They consider it home and come every day for some delicious birdseed and fresh water. These birds are monogamous and stay together for life. Most people wouldn't want anything to do with these birds, but these two have stolen our heart. The guidance we recieved from the wild bird fund really helped us understand how to take care of them. It's a very special place, and we've fallen in love with these birds. How could we not love them when you see a little bird get excited when they hear our voice or see us they look for us through our terrace window in the morning when they're hungry. The wild bird fund is a very special place. We're glad that they are here in NYC.
